  1. I think the tunnel is open for parking the wheel of your bike or anything else, really.
  2. I know this is a 'funny' pictures thread but I thought this wonderful photo of the 'Pont Nuef' deserved to be shown on any pictures thread for its sheer beauty. Here's a bit of its history. A magnificent sight, it really is.
  3. The committee said a few things which they'd already voiced, (and to be fair, nobody really disagrees with), however, the membership also put across the view that the nusc should maybe become a little more militant and use the contacts in the media we've gained, I think the issue became clouded with the lads on the committee getting a little defensive, (understandably) and misreading the intentions of the majority of the criticism, basically, from my point of view, everybody is fighting for the same cause, there was just a bit of healthy debate about the direction we are/should be taking.
  4. No, not quite, amigo. I think tonights meeting was beneficial, the committee heard some very legitimate opinions and I don't think there was many crackpot ideas amongst these, there was no raving lunatics but there was constructive ideas and some minor criticism which I admit I felt for the lads and was a bit unfair. We need to aim for the future but should not take our eye off the here and now. That to me is very valid.
  5. Don't know if it's still the case, but a couple of folk were having a debate about Newcastle and Sunlun on here a while ago. I went to Google maps and typed in Newcastle - one of the three attractions that came up automatically was St James' Park. Typed in sunlun and no mention of the football ground, yet one of the 'highlights' was the glass centre! Nice. *leaves now to do the test* The national glass centre!!! I've been racking my brain to think of somewhere to take my daughters in the summer hols, I wonder if I phone the National Glass Centre, someone there might have an idea where we can go?
  6. Club Atlético Vélez Sársfield, (Argentina) launch their new home & away shirt..... Not bad, but it might click a bit easy, the sponsor should be higher up and I prefer the crest to the left not in the centre.
  7. I found this on another forum; www.ukcitizenshiptest.co.uk I failed! Have a go yourself, some of the questions are very obscure and the applicants must obviously be giving a book to swot up on. Also, you could have fun with this, instead of being a generic test the applicant should have a localised quiz depending on which part of the country he/she wants to go to. Do you want to live in London? Answer these questions; How long is the recommended time to look at your feet when somebody talks to you on the tube? Give one good reason why anyone outside the capital should be pleased that London is hosting the Olympics? London is home to many football clubs, which one is the most annoying? Do you want to live in Scotland? Answer these questions; What is a tattie scone? What is haggis? How much fat is required for a fried batter Mars bar? Are you really sure you want to live in Scotland? Do you want to live in Liverpool? answer these questions? When did Liverpool last win the title? How on earth did Liverpool beat Newcastle to the European city of culture when it was narrowed down to these cities? Why are Liverpool hotels sold out when LFC have a home game but ok when EFC are at home? What are the chances of a Liverpool fan on a phone-in having a Scouse accent? Do you want to live in Manchester? Answer these questions; If you are generally a bitter person, which Manchester team would you follow? If a Scouser was going to rent a flat from you but someone who was on the sex offenders register also wanted it, how would you let down the Liverpudlian? If someone with a broad southern accent asks you where Old Trafford is and you know Man Utd are playing Chelsea, what kind of percentage is he likely to be a Chelsea fan? If you support Man City, what number bus takes you back to Southport? Do you want to live in Sunderland? Answer these questions; How much is Cheesey chips, generally? What is the best way to get to Newcastle? When is the last Metro back to Sunderland? If SAFC finish above Newcastle, does this mean they've had a superb season? When you're on holiday, how many times will you be asked if your from Newcastle, and how long does it take to explain where Sunderland is? What is the most famous Sunderland landmark? (The A19 to Newcastle is not an acceptable answer). Can't think of any Newcastle ones for some strange reason.
  8. Does Fish look like Terry Thomas, by any chance?
  9. That old gadgie cannot believe his luck. "You mean I just type P-O-R-N and all this fanny pops up? fucking magic!"
  10. These Mackems come to town, can't take in the place, can't stand the pace, are totally phased by it and usually make arses of themselves. I can't really understand a Sunderland player coming here for a night out regardless of how much better it'll be than a night out in Sunderland, surely they can pick up a football groupie in the blue monkey?
  11. To a degree, that post does inspire me. I guess I'm just bewildered at the true effectiveness of having 'one of us' at the table. Picture this: Board meeting to hire a new manager. Chairman says, "The names we have are w, x, y and z." Now then, does 'our man in Africa' dispute those names? Does he report back to us? That would just be plain daft. This is where I'm confused about it all. How much does he/she become 'one of them' due to all the confidentiality ?? He/she cannot possibly tell the board to hold on whilst he consults the supporters on every nuance of running the club. The principal of having one of our friends as part of the decision making process sounds, of course, brilliant, but I just have my doubts as to real benefit. However, I guess I will support the calls for this plan to have our fellow fans on the board, and remain hopeful that the true worth will be demonstrated, thus making my Doubting Thomas sentiments unfounded. Who knows if the rep would become 'one of them'? Obviously, if he was consulted on a new manager he couldn't say, 'hang on there, lads, ah'm just ganning doon the three bulls to see what the lads reckon first', I suppose it's where trust comes into it, that and getting a suitable person voted on in the first place, put it this way, I've been involved in redundancy meetings/disputes before with a former employer, the shoppies who went in couldn't always give you an exact answer on certain things but I'd have rather had them there in the first place, and we certainly got a lot more info than we would have got without them, every rep won't be great, not every shop steward is going to be good, but all you can do is vote the best candidate in.
  12. I can see a lot of the 'what ifs' that are being asked about supporter involvement on the board, a lot of them are good questions, however, have we as supporters not got the bottle to go for this idea? Have we as a supporter base not got anyone with some kind of financial/business credentials? Would we be incapable as a body of support of managing to elect a representative from our numbers? The reps remit would come from the supporters, he would be visible and acting on our behalf, if power went to his head and the ego got in the way he simply gets voted off by the supporters. At the minute it's all hypothetical, but I'm sure ground rules would be laid down by the club and the supporters trust, if either was unreasonable then it wouldn't get off the ground in the first place, I'd still like to see us have a go, though. Who wants the situation where AGM's get moved to London at short notice just to avoid any questions that the owners might not want to hear/be heard? Who's happy at the current radio silence/half-truths/plain bullshit that are doing the rounds at the minute? A board representative wouldn't be the answer to all our prayers but it's a big step forward in my opinion. I'm not being funny, but businesses was sending young boys up chimmneys over a hundred years ago, should the common man just have carried on tugging his forelock? Lets have a bit of confidence in ourselves, there's enough of us, for every knacker there's got to be a lot more with a bit of common sense.
  13. Is there any Mag out there that remembers us going to Anfield/Old Trafford and not expecting a hiding? (on the pitch). Apart from a couple of years under KK I'm struggling, even when we did beat Liverpool 2-1 when Mirandinha got the winner, they battered us, my uncle and cousin were both Liverpool fans from Ulster and would give have a good laugh on the phone after their usual 4-1 win over us, Andy Coles hat-trick at SJP against them was very fucking sweet for me especially.
  14. 5: Liverpool 1987-90 The football that Liverpool played in 1987-88, with John Barnes a mesmerising presence on the left wing, was simply irresistible. They would surely have been higher up this list had the ban on English clubs’ from European competition not denied them the chance to measure themselves against the great AC Milan team of the same era. Yet the Arsenal team got top spot even though they couldn't do it in Europe? By all accounts and from what I have seen with all of the great teams Liverpool have had most Liverpool fans and people I have spoken to say that team with Beardsley and Barnes was their best of all of the sides they have had. I also believe Man Utd's treble winning team were a better team than the 2006-09 one. It's hard to compare teams from different era's, but the Liverpool side with Barnes, Beardsley, Houghton, McMahon, Aldridge etc were up there with the best that I can remember, they were a class above anything in the league at the same time. You couldn't put it down to SKY or CL money either, when they got a head of steam up attacking the Kop they were relentless, the BBC picked out a 5-0 hammering of a decent Forest side and highlighted it as the ultimate game of attacking, if you take away the blatant arse licking that the BBC gives Liverpool, (even then when there was no Hansen and Lawro working for them), you have to say they weren't too far off the mark, to be fair, they weren't too slow at using the pass back when it suited (and when Grobelaar could pick it up).
  15. Its got to be said, Id be up for all out "get out here and give us your reasons" ultimatum. Would be funny to see Llardarse try and make out it was down to Shearers unreasonable demands such as wanting to buy a player and such like. You coming to the meeting Thursday? Yes. (Saying that, I haven't a clue where my card is, I don't know if I need it or can give my details as it's a 'members only' meeting?)
  16. Not as much as I'd love him to go.
  17. How about asking Ashley when he's going to start running NUFC if he doesn't get a sale? When will we buy anyone? When is he going to appoint Shearer? (After all, according to them, the only reason they haven't appointed him is that it would be 'unfair' to a new owner, no new owner = Shearer can be appointed. I'd love to see the excuse they would give for not giving him the job).
  18. I haven't been interested in it for a long time, there's our games that I watch and that's about it, I cringe at the sycophancy the SKY 4 recieve, I heard the BBC start a report on todays game Man U are playing with Chelsea as simply, 'United play Chelsea at Wembley today', was the reporter a red or something? The league has been a dead dodo for years and only the blinkered or anyone with a stake in it like the odious Scudamore can pretend otherwise.
  19. Him who was Moyes assistant like? He was here at the academy when Gullit was manager as well.... You'd expect most Mags to know Alan Irvine was at NUFC.
  20. They need to bin that shit Celtic song they sing, fucking awful! (hint, Get your own song.)
