Glenn goes undercover Dec 2 2006 By The Evening Chronicle Newcastle United manager, Glenn Roeder, is set to go undercover tomorrow to check out one of his transfer targets. Roeder will travel to Holland to run the rule over one of the players he hopes to bring in during the January transfer window. But he hasn't asked the home club for a ticket as is the normal practice. Instead, he will arrive unannounced and pay on the gate before taking his place among the Dutch fans. Roeder is wise enough to know that should the Dutch club in question see he is there, then, because it is Newcastle United, the price quoted for his transfer target will shoot up. And, quite naturally, the United boss does not want to alert other clubs to just who he hopes to buy in the January super sales frenzy. That's why the United boss said today: "I have not asked for a ticket to be left under the name of Newcastle United for me tomorrow, but I will be paying my Euros and going behind one of the goals with the rest of the Dutch fans." The Chronicle revealed last month that United had been warned off striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar and left-back Urby Emanuelson by their club, Ajax. United have heeded this warning and have accepted that the highly-rated Dutch pair will not be coming to St James' Park. But United are looking for a left-back, a central defender and a couple of strikers in January. A midfielder is not a priority, but there is one in the Premiership United may bring to Tyneside in January on loan until the end of the season. Meanwhile, there was no rest for Roeder as he took in Arsenal's game with Spurs in the North London derby at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon. Spurs are due at St James' Park this month and United travel to White Hart Lane at the turn of the year. United arrived back in Newcastle following only their third trip to Germany in a European competition in the early hours of yesterday morning. Those players not needing treatment had a warm down yesterday afternoon before being given the weekend off. They will all report back on Monday morning to start their preparations for their first Premiership meeting with Reading, at St James' Park on Wednesday night.

We're not disputing that it doesn't go down as an effort on target, but the fact that someone called it "Sib's shot..." when it was a header! Ya knaa, with his head!
-
Any of you clever computer people fancy updating my avatar into a Christmas sort of theme? I'm sure you do! Cheers!

So if someone said... "Sib scored from a great shot after a cross by Milner against Celta Vigo.." And then you seent he goal and it was a header you wouldn't think they were wrong? I know it counts as an effort on goal but a header isn't a shot, it's a header.

Ok maybe hate is a strong word and I know we shouldn't dislike our own players and all that, but regardless of that, I'm sure there are some players who at the time of being at the club you really didn't like and would love to see the back of. Of course we will get the obvious ones... MattM4- Shola Gemmill- Luque Sima- Parker Ted Maul- Parker Snakehips- Any non Geordie For me, well at the minute, it would have to be Babayaro, the spine-less prick. And Carr wouldn't be far behind tbh. Can't say I was upset to see Jenas leave when he did either.

Either that or someone will steal it, then try to sell it on the market on Thursday.

The awesome tree in Middle Street up yet? I'm sure they get those trees from some sort of rescue home.

Renowned knee surgeon Dr Richard Steadman is confident Michael Owen will be back in action this season. Owen, 26, has credited Steadman with saving his career after undergoing two operations this year at the surgeon's famous clinic in Vail, Colorado. Steadman told BBC Sport: "From what I've heard, he is doing very well in his rehabilitation. "We carry out two operations in this type of case and the patient usually comes back to their pre-injury status." The Newcastle striker has not played since rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during England's World Cup match against Sweden on 20 June. Steadman has carried out two operations on Owen following the injury - in July he repaired lateral damage to the cartilage in the forward's right knee and in September he operated on the striker's cruciate ligament. A good result isn't good enough for a top player - you need a great result The 69-year-old American has developed a reputation as the top knee surgeon in the world and counts Ruud van Nistelrooy, Ronaldo, Alan Shearer and Roy Keane among his previous clients. Steadman explained that he had carried out two separate operations to give Owen the best possible chance of returning to the top. "If you have a dual problem, my approach is to give people the best recovery from the injury with the slowest rehabilitation," Steadman said. "Once that's accomplished, you do the second operation and have the rehab from that. "The approach we've taken gives the best chance to come back at the highest level again. "I've had a number of patients in a number of different sports who have come back successfully at the same level they were at before the injury. "If you try to lump everything together, you may have a good result. But a good result isn't good enough for a top player - you need a great result." Steadman used his "micro fracture" technique when he operated on Owen. This involves using a device like a tiny ice pick to punch holes in the bone near the knee cartilage and is designed to speed up recovery. Blood and bone marrow seep out, creating blood clots which release cartilage-building cells. Steadman and his staff have remained in touch with Owen during his rehabilitation and Steadman has visited him during trips to England.
