  4. English Premiership club Newcastle United are believed to have joined the fast-growing list of overseas clubs courting Orlando Pirates’ midfield star Teko Modise. Sowetan understands The Magpies have already approached Modise’s agent, Jazzman Mahlakgane, with a view to luring the gifted midfielder to St James’ Park next season. Attempts to solicit comment from United’s press officer Mark Hannen were unsuccessful. Strugglers West Bromwich Albion are another English Premiership club who have inquired about the Bafana Bafana star. But it is unlikely Modise would join the Baggies who are likely to be relegated to the Championship (the English First Division) next season. Mahlakgane could not be reached for comment yesterday. But our deep throats insist the two club have shown interest in Modise. “But United are the ones who are likely to beat West Bromwich to the signature of the player,” said our sources. “We expect them to give Jazzman an offer any time soon. They are also eager to have a look at Teko as a matter of urgency.” Meanwhile, England striker Jermain Defoe will rejoin Tottenham Hotspur from Portsmouth after the Premier League clubs agreed a fee on yesterday . Tottenham said on their website Defoe, who spent four years at White Hart Lane before moving to Portsmouth for £7,5 million (about R67 million) less than a year ago , had agreed personal terms for the move, which is subject to a medical. – Additional reporting by Reuters
  5. Manchester City have tabled an £8million bid for Newcastle's unhappy goalkeeper Shay Given. The first official offer for the Republic of Ireland international is expected to provoke a similar approach from Tottenham. Given's departure would result in a furious reaction from fans, even if they sympathise with the frustration of one of their most loyal players. Given rocked Newcastle last week when he announced through his solicitor Michael Kennedy that he had become 'despondent' with life at the crisis-torn club. The 32-year-old, who has been at St James' Park for more than 11 years, has four years left on his £40,000-a-week deal but has told manager Joe Kinnear he wants a move to a more successful club. City, who are looking for an experienced international goalkeeper, are the first club to make a bid following the release of Given's statement. Shay Given has voiced his unhappiness at Newcastle and could leave the club during the current transfer window with Manchester City and Spurs both keen Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has warned Kinnear he must generate funds to spend in the transfer window and he has been linked with Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc and Sheffield United's Paddy Kenny, once Given's Ireland understudy, as well as outfield players like Rangers skipper Barry Ferguson and Blackburn defender Stephen Warnock. As well as fighting to keep Given, Kinnear has four players in the middle of contract negotiations including Given's No 2 Steve Harper, who is stalling on his new deal. The 33-year-old, who has been at the club even longer than Given, is likely to keep his options open until the summer. Former England midfielder Nicky Butt has yet to sign his improved contract while captain Michael Owen has said he will re-open negotiations with the club at the end of the season. But one man who has put pen to paper is striker Shola Ameobi, who has signed a new four-year deal.
  6. £20 isnt great like. £10 and you could get 40k in st james for the replay. £20 and its going to be 25k
  7. haha theres sum proper bastards here like. i think sholas an okay squad man
  8. well i think its safe to say he was one of the ones up for sale anyways, i honestly thought he was a decent utility man to have on the bench
  9. Take this with a pinch of salt.... January is sure to be a hive of transfer activity at Manchester City, as Mark Hughes looks to reshape his squad at the richest football club on the planet. There are sure to be many incomings and some outgoings at Eastlands, and reports suggest Joe Kinnear is willing to take a couple of defenders from the Blues. It is believed the United boss will offer £3million for the versatile Nedum Onuoha, and he will also make an ambitious £5million bid for club captain Richard Dunne. I would definately take Onuoha for £3m tho
  10. ive got 128 points so always get away tickets anyways
  11. aye his dad is a preacher, shola does drink i can confirm
  12. aye pompey make shit loads of money on players. bought muntari for £7m sold to inter for €17.5m + add ons. look at glen johnson too hes worth loads more than what they paid.
  13. aye defo a dodgy story. one of his pals might have "borrowed" his cheque book
  14. to be fair, toon travel was a profit making company he wasnt doing it all for free
  15. mines good quality chinese commentry tho
  16. i must admit i sit about 10 seats to barratts left in the east stand. Hes probably the only person in the east stand to start off chants or just sing in general. But.... when i noticed he had his banner at liverpool i was a bit annoyed, i understand its his decision and he can do as he feels. But personnaly i feel if you want to protest do it away from the inside of the football stadium and outside the ground. For me being inside the stadium you should only have a positive atmosphere and i think his flag creates a negative one. But then again i would never tell him to stop doing it.
  17. Hull City Kit suppliers Umbro, are working around clock to source or produce a 3rd kit for Hull City's FA cup 3rd round replay against Newcastle United which is due to take place on the 14th Janurary. Currently both the home black and amber and the away 'flint' strips clash with the Magpies' black and white. The Tigers were forced to borrow a set of white shorts and socks from Newcastle when the sides last met at St James' Park in September. 'We have got a massive problem - we don't have a third-choice strip,' admitted manager Phil Brown. 'We can't wear our home kit and we can't wear our away. Hopefully Umbro can come up with something.'
  18. where does mcgeady fit into our team
  19. decent side on paper. Bizare how many times enrique gets injured during a game and cant continue and then turns up fit for the next game. Now time to bet.... Head or heart???
  20. Can someone please explain whats happened since the first day of the season when we drew away at Man U. Everyone was up for the new season, hopefull of things to come. Now i understand the boardroom shit and that Keegans gone but.. We still have the same players (bar Milner!) surely we should be doing better than what we are? im totally confused by all this shite like
  21. hes definately worth 13m at least. I would take that buy a good left back a decent right back as cover and a central midfielder (not Ferguson) easy as that. Oh release Cacapa, Sell Edgar. But i'd keep carroll for the time being he looks okay
  22. i didnt kno we had 3 players who valued 16m. Especially not first teamers. Maybe Smith 4m? Enrique 4m back to spain? and someone else? no idea who really
