    Kid Rock

I have heard a few of his tracks in the past and thought - ok. Downloaded his new album based on the vitriolic responses in this thread. Played the whole album form start to finish - no skipping. I have to say it's pretty poor like. It's not sure what it's trying to be. Jamesyou described it as southern rock - it's really not. If you want Southern Rock try the Black Crowes. Now there's a southern band with plenty of talent. Some of the songs are blatant rip-offs. On one song he basically steals Sweet Home Alabama and rips its guts out. I don't just mean the chorus, I mean the guitar solo, the piano solo, the chorus and part of the premise for the song. It's like he's trying to be something he's not. It's like Pop but trying to be 'more Rock' but throwing in a mess of other styles. The mix of styles when done properly sounds quite refreshing but done poorly sounds like an album with multiple split personalities. He has popularity I'll give you that. Popularity does not equal talent though. There are loads of bands who where technically very good but fail to make much of an impact (I can give an example if you like) whereas some people strike a chord with your average (perhaps 'mass market') joe and make it big. James Blunt is a classic example of this. The amount of people in the music industry who have gone on record wondering why JB is so popular). As for the vitriolic responses, it's something I've noticed on this board. Maybe it's just because I don't visit that often and probably contribute even less, but it seems that sometimes when someone has a strong opinion of something and decides to share it; if it deviates from the 'perceived' line of acceptance it seems to get lambasted. I'm not saying I agree with James coDuham - because I don't, I just thought I'd share the observation. Incidentally, I've since deleted the offending album
  2. Why are we having this conversations? FFS are we actively trying to drive him out because he loves playing for England? I dont think we'd be having this conversation if he hadn't had the injury problems he's had since he signed for us. He's never going to have the passion of Shearer and I don't expect him too. What I expect him and our other players to do is what they are paid to do. He is paid to score goals and when we play him he does. Without him we don't have anywhere near as strong an option. Martins has his own qualities (speed and aggressiveness are two) but lacks others (such as intelligence, ability to read the game and position himself). What doesn't help is the media. It's like they want him to leave too as they feel he never should have come to us - he's too good for NUFC type thing. They can fuck off too. I dont give a shit if Owen sleeps under an NUFC duvet or not. Owen is cold and a bit ruthless and I quite like that. He wants to do well at what he does and if he's doing that for us I'm happy. We've enjoyed several local players 'bleeding' for the club - but where has that got us? It's easy to get sentimental about these things but that doesn't necessarily win you trophy's. Get behind the lad, we've more important things to worry about in the team than him.
  3. I'm So Glad - Cream at the Royal Albert Hall '05 Clapton sounds so laid back it makes you sick and you'd never guess Ginger Baker is about 70. Jack Bruce 'aint half bad either. Whilst writing this, track moved to Spoonful - Clapton and Bruce are both class on this.
  4. Excellent. I think Celtic have taken the appropriate action and that should be the end of it. It'll be interesting to see what action UEFA take against Milan/Dida. Might deter a few others
  5. I agree about the difference in the incidents. Awarding the game to Milan and removing Celtic would be overkill and unjust. Time will tell I guess. Celtic have acted swiftly, which is good. Let hope UEFA take this on board and leave it in the hands of the club.
  6. And all those times that Jimmy Jump popped on, same amount of "contact" with the player made also... Don't get me wrong, I agree with this, and the two posts above it. The contact was minimal and it's the fan who should be punished (and he has) not the club. Part of my point was that how do UEFA react? This incident is no more Celtic's fault than the flare incident was Inters. Inter got thrown out, fined and forced to play the next 4 games behind closed doors. UEFA must show parity or risk the fall out. This incident was not a serious as the Inter one (although the hysterics would argue 'what if he's been carrying knife') but Uefa need to respond. IMO, if anyone should be banned it should be Dida for his theatrics. If we should make an example, it should be him. The cynic in me says he did it because he realised that his reaction may result in Celtic getting kicked out and therefore Milan would get through - it worked for them once before. In reality though - who knows?
  7. CL quarter final a few years ago against Inter. Milan were awarded a 3-0 win and Inter had to play a few games behind closed doors I think. They were also fined IIRC. Listening to the radio I thought the fan had seriously tw@ted him and my first reaction is that Celtic would be gone. Inter got kicked out for the flare incident and it would only be fair if Celtic got the same. However, having seen the incident it hardly seems fair to kick them out. Then again, was it fair to the Inter players after the fan threw the flare? I hope Celtic are allowed to carry on as it would be an especially bitter pill for them to swallow given the significance of the victory, however, could they really complain if the reason was for a fan invading the pitch and assaulting (I use that term loosely, but valid none the less) a player. The fan is a tit like. Some people need to learn some self control and awareness of others. His actions could ruin the campaign of his club. Bet he didn't think of that when he thought it'd be 'funny' to slap the oppositions keeper.
  8. Im curious, did they not try to charge you £35? Or did you cancel then resubscribe at £18.
  9. I live in France though. It's actually easier to get video streams than audio ones I find. All radio coverage is blocked off to people overseas. Well that's fooked that argument then hasn't it
  10. I know what you mean matt but when you live in Newcastle and you can listen to Radio Newcastle on match day you're alright. When I had it last season I used to watch some of the video interviews (the interviewer just got too cringeworthy though) but in the end I only used it for the radio link. When it's your only means of reliably (well, mostly) listening to the match it's worth the £11. When they sent me the reminder to renew and told me it would be £35 I told them to get fooked. Might sign up again, but if they try to charge me £35 I dunno
  11. As a fellow exile I had it last season for about £20 and got rid because i only ever used ot for he radio link - which i got before I subscribed to NW. The radio link doesnt work now as you need your login details from NW so I'm thinking of getting it again.
  12. Class like. Take a picture is lovely. Totally chilled
  13. Thats what I mean. If he gets benched as is probably expected he wont and shouldn't be picked. If he moved on though, he'd be in with more than a fair shout.
  14. Barnet Crewe makes more sense imo. No it doesn't at all because 'Crewe' is nothing to do with hair is it? Whereas 'Barnet' IS a word used to describe a haircut. Idiot. Bit harsh
  15. It's defo Crewe I think. I dont think the answer needs to use the whole team name. Otherwise why would detectives need Leeds United
  16. If BS drops him back to the bench he has no chance. Not playing regularly for his club. Shame like as I think he's a better option than Robbo or Clamity James
  17. Tonight seems to be a live Black Crowes night seeing as I've just got hold of a load of their live stuff Not bad at all to work too with a beer or seven Feck knows what the code fairies will have conjured tonight though
  18. Jury's out for me. I dunno if my leniency is down to something I can't quite place that I like about him, or the fact that he, along with many others at the club are new faces and it will take time to bed everyone in. Not altogether sure why we bought him given our other buys over the summer. Time will tell and I'm not prepared to get on anyone's back just get.
  19. If he was sacked then ok, but if he chose to leave he's gone down in my estimations a little. I'd have thought someone who carrys that air of arrogance could stick it out. SAF sees another one off eh?
  20. Laptop for work is my latest buy. Looking forward to Guitar Hero 3 next month for Xbox 360
  21. mmmmm Rachel Unitt *homer-esque drools* I can't believe she's not playing like. Makes the game far more enticing
  22. he's not a bad reserve striker but he's been consistently poor for us in midfield and shouldn't play there again unless the squad is stretched. i'm more than a little concerend that sam seems to think he's a right winger. I'm not convinced he thinks Smith is a right winger. I just think he's playing who he has to hand at the minute. If Enrique was at LB we'd have Charlie at LW and Milner at RW. It'd be different again if we had the first choice 4-3-3 BS obviously wants to play. I think that as a few players come back, we'll see a more balanced side.
  23. I think its too early to form an opinion of either. They joined late in a game where the team was collectively gash and I don't recall seeing anything of note by either of them. Having said that, the TV I watched the match on last night was gash too and some dick kept putting the jukebox on when I was trying to listen to what was going on so I could have missed something from them
  24. Our set pieces were awful last night too. We were denied two clear pens but tbh we were poor last night and gave no service to the front too. Owen's confidence must have been sky high after the England games and last night he was a different player. Why? we never gave him the ball. The only time you heard his name was when he was trying to create something for someone else - tells a story. Poor choice of midfield really. Whether that was forced by injury or not is another matter. 3pts thrown away really as we should be beating teams like that. Still, as has been mentioned, it's only one game and we still have a game in had. It's a long season yet and I can't believe lessons will not have been learned last night.
