  1. Tune! Without doubt my favorite Free track. For me: Stone Roses - Shoot You Down, Waterfall Oasis - Champagne Supernova, Columbia and probably Cigarettes and Alcohol Jet - Cold Hard Bitch, Get Me Outta Here Led Zep - Going To California, Thats the Way, Heartbreaker Pink Floyd - Fearless John Mayer - Axis Bold as Love Jimi - Angel, Little Wing, All ALong the Watchower Free - Wishing Well, Mr Big (the bassline man!) Probably a bunch of Clapton songs which would change based on my blues/rock mood. Right now I'm caning the live Cream album from '05. Feck me Ginger Baker can still play at 70ish?
  2. Just got back from a long weekend trip to Bruge. I'm not a real ale fan but went native and drank all manner of trippy shit (fookin 13% some of them buggers). Found some ok ones (Bush) and some that were not to be recommended to your worst enemy (Guese Boon). Jupiler is served on tap and is just an everyday lager for the uneducated I think. It was the only thing I really enjoyed whilst I was there I went to a bar though that had the landlady come to your table with a bloody menu! Hell you could describe the sort of beer you would like to drink and she'd bring one that tasted like it! Fookin brilliant night (lock in 'til 3am) and I even met a Geordie with a Dutch wife who'd gained a Geordie accent.
  3. Until you get onto 'Hard' then it gets frustrating as f**k. You know how to play the song, but can you bollocks make your little finger do shit with that orange button. It's a good game though - dont get me wrong. The wireless guitar made it sooooo much better. Missing a 'freebird' though
  4. that'd have more of an effect then you seem to think our defence is under it all the time due to our shocking inability to keep possesion in midfield +1 i think with a bit of stability our defence could be fine, our inability to create and convert chances, or even pass the ball has been our biggest problem this season +2 We have consistently put our defence under pressure by our inability to hold/pass/play/create against teams. Our midfield is key - as that is where the battle is won imo. It is with Arsenal and it is with Man Utd. If we are to aspire to those levels, we need to be able to dominate games or at least have the ability to take the game to someone. EDIT: I would add to that, Given has kept us in games for how long? It would be nice to see him behind a defence not worried about how the rest of the team is doing in front of them.
  5. I have to say, I'm a little worried by the whole "good ol' boys" thing. It won't be like it was in the 90's. I hope it's good (and better in some ways - obviously) but the media talk about Cox, McD, Frazac et al and the Shearer, Sir Les, General Lee worries me. Good players do not managers/staff (neccessarily) make. I would seriously love it if we become a 'team' again, but imo raiding the archives is not the path to success. Learning from it and improving on it; is however.
  6. Despite finishing second and qualifying for the Champions League semi-finals? hmmm, I maybe should have looked at their league placings before posting..... Damn my crap and misguided memory. Still, I think my point about City is correct
  7. I know some people will laugh at me, but why is the possibility of Mourinho so distant? Before him, Chelsea weren't that great (admittedly they'd won the FA cup) but they were hardly pushing for top spot. Abramovich brought with him his Roubles and appointed a seriously top class manager. City have done feck all for years and and been in and out of the premier league twice in the time we've been in it, yet they can get Sven with their billionaire. This place is stressful and the job might be a poisoned chalice, but I think a lot of people would calm down a bit an be prepared to give someone time if we really thought they had a decent shout of taking us somewhere. Just a thought.
  8. Excellent, we've become a club that is run under the advice of a mate from Spurs. Are we just going to do everything they try? Question, if Rednapp turned down Spurs and he likes living down south, why on earth would he move here? The idea of our manager flying up from the south coast is ridiculous. Where is he going to fly from? Farnborough? That'll take an hour to reach from the south coast. Then and hour or so in the air (I used to do a weekly flight from Wharton in the North West to Farnborough) plus about an hour at the other end to get to SJP. Where will he land? Is there a little airport in Ponteland or something? (or am I confusing that with somewhere else?). Either way, about 3hrs travelling each way. I can't see him walking his dogs much. Even our chairman has relocated for the foreseeable future so the idea of the manager not doing so is beyond belief; and that's before we actually talk about what we could resonably expect form him in terms of performance. Utter.fucking.madness.
  9. I know what you mean. I've used the Sven example in other threads as a comparison. New club, new regime etc and he started better. That contributed to BSA's downfall (imo). That aside, I totally agree with what you've said. I didn't like the football we've been playing, but frankly the whole club is a bag of shite and it's not going to take a plaster and a kiss of yer mam to fix. Whilst I wasn't totally happy with the Allardyce signing in the first place, I did feel that, given some time; he'd steady the ship and turn us into a team we could properly build upon. Given that the last 4 seasons or whatever have seen us in decline, I'd have taken that. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was Man Utd or Arsenal. Neither was Chelsea to a degree. The tinkerman left a decent platform for The Special One to build on. Either way, whoever takes over, I dont expect us to be back in the CL anytime soon. We have more work to do before we get back there. I'll add one caveat though. Keegan did it - he exceeded our expectations, turned us into an exciting and winning team and got us into Europe in a relatively short space of time; so that's not to say it can't be done. Just that I'm not expecting it; because what Keegan also did was to artificially raise the expectations of our fans - particularly those under the current age of say 25? We were class back then and on one hand we have every right to ask for it again. On the other hand, it might have been the exception that proves the rule and we're in for a long haul back to those days.
  10. Regardless of who he is, he raises some good points imo. Particularly those about Ashley in the stands. A fair read.
  11. If it's Redknapp we'll be an even bigger laughing stock than we already are.
  12. I can't help but feel this episode will just remind people how much of a joke we are as a club. Whilst I didn't like the way we are playing I was sure things would settle and BSA would get us working together properly. After all, we've shown glimpses of it and surely after a bit of time we could play consistently. Also, we desperately need stability and sacking a manager who inherited a club in pieces after only 8 months does not promote stability. Whoever manages us is unlikely to turn us into Man Utd / Arsenal / Liverpool overnight. Maybe BSA was not the man to do that, but given time I believe he would have left us in better shape than before he took over. We don't stand much chance of attracting anyone huge given that I reckon the job does more harm than good to your career. Not unless we pay them a shitload. Look at Man City. Sven has been overachieving there and they are beginning to look like the team they really are rather than the team they looked like at the beginning of the season. The main difference between us and them is that they got off to a good start. This kick started BSA downfall imo, in that he didn't and his nearest comparison did. I feel more uncertain than ever really, mixed with a feeling of dread - and I'm normally irritatingly optimistic!
  13. Fish, I know a lot of people are having problems with xbox live and CoD4 (including me). Apparently (according to my nephew) the developers of CoD4 have admitted there is a problem and they are working on it. Live has been a bitch recently. I'd google about resetting your xbox. I think you can do a software reset. After all, your 360 is just a pc running a cut down version of windows mce. The ring of death is not permanent. I was on live a couple of days ago and a bloke form leeds I know (xbox live 'know') has a similar problem and apparently he googled about it. If you deliberately overheat your xbox, it performs a hard reset. Fixed his up no problem. Not sure how he did it or how safe it is (so dont blame me - investigate first!) but it's worth a look before you give up. Good luck!
  14. Dad - Seaham, Mam - Byker. I was born in Newcastle and raised in West Denton. To be fair to my Dad, he let me choose either way and even followed NUFC himself (although he gre up watching Sunlun). By the time we all left Newcastle, my Dad had lived in and supported Newcastle longer than he'd lived in and supported Sunlun. He still occasionally looks for their results but is firmly a toon fan. I guess, because of my heritage, this means I have no chance of ever reaching sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooopafan status [/whatever]
  15. mmmmmmmmm, sisters.......
  16. Massive underachiever. He has attributes that should have made him a success, he had small spells where he looked like he might have made it, but then disappeared again, through injury and attitude. Attitude is the thing with him. After a while you realise with some players, they will just not have the application to be successful, and he fell into that category. Its just as vital as any other attribute.Sometimes you can see straight away or fairly quickly they don't have application, maybe in his case I wanted to believe but in the end realised it just wasn;t going to happen. He should have copied Craig Bellamy for lessons in it. Our mistake was not replacing him, not in getting rid. QFT
  17. Aye, I know what you mean. My brother and I used to have ps2's on which we used to play Fifa. (stay with me on this one). For those who don't know, you used the circle button for both shoot and for clearance (if you were defending). We called this button the 'Bramble button' as this tended to be what Bramble did when he played for us. It struck us as funny that once we got rid of him, the button's power was not transferred out of Newcastle with him, but shared amongst the remaining team. Last night we played without the use of the 'Bramble button'. Footnote: Before you all ask, I'm am not on drugs or alcohol. A little sleep deprived maybe.......
  18. Christ, i'm not saying we're going to win the league but it was a good result and more than what most people asked for. Recognise that atleast. Off topic slightly, but was I the only person who saw Adebayor lean into Beye? It certainly wasn't a foul IMO. I thought that too. It was at least half and half. I think given Ade's performance for the rest of the match, the officials weren't willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I think he was trying another pen appeal so I think the ref got it right. On the flip side I think Taylor was lucky. There's 'using your weight and strength' and there's a blatant shoulder barge. Taylor needs to make the latter look more like the former
  19. Roz - nice cover. I think we are frustrating the Arse, and not by just stopping them play. I need to try and to be too optimistic
  20. Dare I say it, but I can see us getting a 2nd? Had to try really hard not to scream at the equalizer - Matthews been chilled for the first time today. Mrs Paws would not be amused :
  21. Yeah, I'd say they deserve a mention too. Agree with the sentiments of Martin over Sinatra too.
  22. I've not read the whole thread but Rodgers was my first thought too. I've seen him live too - makes the hair stand on your arms. Apologies if these are duplicated (I'm sure they must be by now) but here's a few who I think should be up there (not all of them are my taste, but they are clearly good): 1. Mercury (obviously) 2. Cocker 3. The guy from Hootie and the Blowfish 4. Jon Bon Jovi 5. When not being a dick, Axl Rose had a fair range on him and carried the power behind it 6. In his day, Rodger Daltry 7. Robert Plant It's easy to list a few who are very good, but for me Rodgers takes it. I think with Freddie you have to separate the fact he was such a showman and compare his vocals pound for pound against the others. He still fairs well like! As for female singers, none of the warbly ones should really be considered as despite their talents they blow it by warbling all over the place. Ask them to hold a single note for a sustained period of time. Now that's clever! Aretha Franklin managed to be good without warbling all over.
