Well they're not doing it for the money it seems. Good to see they're using Jason Bonham on drums rather than the once-rumoured Zack Starky. I know what you're saying Thom (re 65+ rockers - will they be any good) and although Page's playing has suffered from years of abuse I can't see them reforming if they aren't good enough. They have too much at stake really. Their reaction to the 85 Live Aid video footage shows they are aware of that. I have Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes: Live at the Greek on CD and I think some of Page's faults are covered by the Crowes, but it's still good stuff. I saw The Who at Glastonbury this year and was a little underwhelmed in one respect (which is why I sort of share Thom's fears) but thinking about it, they were missing more than just one of the original band members. I think Daltry was having a bit of an off day anyway and I've watched the Glasto footage a couple of times now and maybe I'm being a bit too critical. Anyway, The Who have done it pretty successfully, Cream nailed it so I reckon Led Zep will pull it off too. Beside man, JPJ and Page playing Going to California and That's the Way acoustic will be mint. I think it's harsh to class JPJ as just a bassist. The man is multi-talented. *runs off to put on The Lemon Song and Heartbreaker*

Off to my local tonight to watch the game. Looking forward to it. Looks like Beye and/or Faye might get their first start. I'm less bothered about Faye as our midfield has played a few matches now and I'm not sure I'd want to add another new one into the mix. Beye at RB sounds like a canny idea though If Enrique is injured I'd expect to see Charlie at LB. It makes the choice for LW interesting if BS opts to keep Milner on the right. Mind you, if we play 4-3-3 then it's a different storey. Just the fact we can talk about different players with different formations and we have options brings a smile to my face. I've not been this excited for ages. It's still not worn off Edit: WTF - the blush smiley has a Santa hat?

Barry has done an excellent job tonight. Soaked it up, passed out of danger. Difficult to compare him to Gerrard as the are both playing with completely different objectives. On his form though, it's difficult to see him giving up his place to Hargreves. As IM typing, Rio pops one one in. WTF? -

i thought they did pretty well in the first half. Russia only had a couple of chances and Richards cut off most of Jerk-off's advances. However, we've started poorly this half. Ferdinand is having a poor start in particular. -

Two good goals from Owen. Made by Heskey (can't believe I'm typing that). This is promising stuff for us and Owen is feeding well off a big striker. Something I'd hope Viduka can do. Whether you like England or not, this is good match practice for Owen which is great for us. -
I think he is one of many players who have yet to fill their billing. I'd like to see what he can do in a better organised team with a better, organised manager. We should try to get the best out of him and see where we are in Jan. If he's coming good and Sam likes him then he stays. If not, we hopefully will have gotten some good games out of him which will increase his price. I remember him being quite creative at Inter too, although that was around the time of the WC. For now he can't go anywhere so we have two choices: we do what we normally do at NUFC and hound a player till he fucks off for nowt, or we give him some time and support (clean slate - new manager remember) and see if we can get something out of him.

I wouldn't particularly disagree with that IF everyone was on form. In fact, let Gerrard play with a Liverpool shirt on under his England kit and he'd be the best player on the pitch. The same could be said for letting Lampard play with his Chelsea shirt on. I rate both players for their club - Gerrard is Liverpool's own Captain Fantastic and I think Lampard has a lot to do with how Chelsea tick. However, I think the problem is that Lampard has suffered more in the midfield pairing than Gerrard has. Both have played badly, Gerrard just less so. The WC is a perfect example I guess. I'd alternate the two with AN Other midfielder for example Gerrard - Hargreves, Lampard - Hargreves. Different pairings for different scenarios perhaps?

In the beginning that was the way it worked. It still will work that way if you change your privacy settings. As for the Google results - it takes time. Search indexes aren't instant. It may take a few months for the facebook stuff to be properly indexed.
-
I'm sure thats what your mummy tells you ;P I'm curious though. When did you get your notification? This might have been because of the arguments raised when it first emerged this was happening. Maybe they added this to the system but we all missed it in the office because we'd already changed our settings. Mrs Paws didn't update her profile until the weekend though
-
I wasn't, my wife wasn't and neither were all the people in my office. Given that we are all involved in web related activities we all became aware of it pretty quickly. Still, it gave us something to blog about I suppose.
-
That's not the privacy issue. The issue is that facebook have now decided to open up their entire database to the search engines so that it is indexed. This allows people outside facebook to search for you. The way it used to work was that you could not search for someone unless you had registered first - even then you could control what they saw of you. It's all a ploy to get facebook more members and make it bigger. The problem is, it basically flaunts the data protection issue of opt-in not opt-out. You can opt-out of the public thing, but it's turned on by default. Anything and everything you put up on your facebook profile will now be publicly visible. Some people have pictures of their bairns or of their friends which they share with their online facebook friends. If it's public you have no control over that. It's fine as long as you opt-out, but that's the point you have to opt-out. There has been little notification by facebook of this happening until after the fact.

Good game all round form England I thought. It's interesting that with a few of the 'big name' players unavailable, we turn out a cohesive display like that. Obviously against weaker opposition, but the banana skin was there and avoided. On top of that, Owen looked good and is getting sharper which is good for us. A goal will boost him and that's good. I'm quite interested to see who gets the drop for Wed. SWP is starting to look like the player he could have been 2 years ago if he'd moved to Arsenal and I thought Barry was strong in midfield. It'll be interesting to see if he's dropped in favour of Hargreves. Will Heskey keep his place over Crouch? I'm quite looking forward to Wed.

STEVEN TAYLOR has turned down a new five-year contract
maggiespaws replied to Sever07's topic in Newcastle Forum
At the end of the day he can only reasonably compare himself to the likes of zoggy and milner and if they are getting more than he is offered then he has a fair shout imo. I know I would and I'm sure the rest of you would too. I suppose he looks at some of the highly paid flops we've had and has to ask "why do they get paid that for doing shite all when I have put the effort in". A fair shout. I go back to my first sentence though, the zog and milner are his peers. He should be at least on the same terms as them. Remember how Zoggy spat his dummy out last season? To be fair, Taylor has never done that. -
If we keep winning or not losing (more likely)..

Quoted as it sums up what i was about to type. -
Whilst I can understand the sentiments for taking the piss out of Ms Taylor this was just too obvious. If she actually reads it I would expect a derisory article about ill fated humor and how all geordies are so thick as to think people would find it funny. Nowt against Niall and Biffa because I don't think they do a bad job of keeping .com running. A site of that size with that many people looking at it, expecting, is no mean feat. Just plays into her hands unfortunately - the slimy, scumbag, misguided, smoggie bitch

Eric Clapton - From the Cradle. Chilled blues for a chilled Friday afternoon in the office. Not played this album for ages until recently. I'd forgotten how class it was 8)

I guess it might just be this new found optimism but I'm not as upset by this draw as I might of been in recent seasons. Arsenal are having problems of their own at the minute - particularly in scoring. We look the tightest I've seen us at the back in a long time. Should be an interesting tie.

Yeah I think the weak bones thing is bollocks tbh. It depends on where your weight is at the time of the tackle, the angle of your leg etc. Look at when Smith broke his leg. Dyer was full flow and was kicked in the back of his weight bearing leg (it looked like he was shifting his weight as he was tackled). His knee was turned in the direction he was moving in, but his foot was not. Like I say, I think the intention by the Rovers player was to foul him, but the break was just unfortunate.
-
That sums up my feelings too.
-
Thats gotta hurt!! I've watched the video a couple of times now and I have to say, I think the rovers player lashed out at Dyer. I'm not saying he meant to break his leg, but the foul was intentional I reckon. He shifts his bodyweight onto his right side so he can flick his left out.

Bit of a shock result that like. I'd have thought they'd have faired better against Luton. I can't imagine what half time must have been like in the Makems room -
You too eh? What was in the water in January?
-
Can't say I'm any more than ambivalent about Dyer but no decent person would revel in his injury. He's not our player and not our concern. Surely we're bigger than this eh?
