The thing is, the US is more hegemonic relative to the rest of the world than at any point in history. Several individuals in the US are richer than medium sized developed nations. Militarily they are untouchable. All powerful, and now all corrupt. Countries like the UK, France, and Germany are all in decline and have never been less relevant. Especially since the alliances are fragmented thanks to Brexit. The post war consensus is dead, there is no place for organisations like the UN, WHO, NATO. Democracy is on its deathbed and autocracy looms large. The world is completely fucked basically.

Fwiw I've been mulling over things and have come to the conclusion your diagnosis for a lot of things is essentially correct. In particualr, I've taken the trajectory of young males for granted and have been proven wrong. I'm still not convinced by the solution though.
