I think the bookies have Sunderland and Burnley pretty much level pegging with Hull just behind.

If you had a lot of money to throw at a PL club then would definitely pick Sunderland.

I disagree, it's not like being part of the England football squad where training etc. helps you gain experience. It's just sitting around and carrying drinks.

The lack of tour matches (especially given has hasn't featured in the ODIs) means the experience he'll gain will be negligible if he doesn't play in the tests.

Bit of trivia: All England's XI have a first class century to their name. Batty is down to come in at no. 11 and averages just under 24 in first class cricket. Incidentally, I thought that Jonathan Agnew in his BBC column made a good point when he said there wasn't much point in taking Hameed if they weren't going to play him. Although I suspect they might think he's a bit too similar in style to Cook.

He took it way beyond that though with his dedicating wins to the owner and the like when it was completely unnecessary and also when anyone with a modicum of commonsense would know it would alienate the vast majority of the fans. -
A few of the ones I know have said, without any prompting, that they'd swap places with us in a heartbeat, or words to that effect. I think most probably would but wouldn't like to admit it to Newcastle fans.

A few years back I was in the one on Saltmeadows Road in Gateshead and got a breakfast special (or whatever it was called) which was basically coffee and a croissant or pain au chocolat. Asked for the latter and the lass didn't have a fucking clue what I was on about.
