  2. The depressing thing about this is that it makes me feel like it's only a matter of time until he reneges on any promises made to Benitez.
  3. I appreciate that you need to delegate a lot at his level but I get the impression he thinks it's the end of his responsibility as soon as he's told one of his management team to "deal with it".
  4. I can well imagine him showing up late on purpose. That's his style
  5. I reckon Golden Boy were shit-scared about the prospect of their 'Golden Boy' getting knocked out. It still would've been Canelo's decision ultimately though.
  6. The Fight was a great 4 part mini series about boxing: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0429357/episodes?season=1&ref_=tt_eps_sn_1 The final part (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2826880/?ref_=ttep_ep4) The Closest Thing To Dying was about The Thrilla in Manila and refers to a quote Ali made to his corner at the end of one of the later rounds. Ali pretty much collapses to the canvas at the end of the 14th after Frazier's corner called off the fight to protect their man.
  7. Should've been the last fight for both boxers. Brilliant fight but you feel guilty watching it even after all these years. Fighting 15 rounds (well 14 but scheduled for 15) in those conditions was fucking ridiculous. Frazier pretty much died destitute as well. So much about what's good and bad about boxing is encapsulated in that fight.
  8. He's talking to David Frost. I've got When We Were KIngs on DVD and it came as a double pack with the The Rumble in The Jungle and The Thriller in Manilla. The interview shown on the Rumble in the Jungle DVD is actually edited. He's just chatting away then he realises it's going out live. In the end in the full interview he starts rambling on a bit but the edited version is class.
  9. Did anyone catch the documentary on Ali on BBC1 on Saturday? There's a bit about 59 mins in when he's in a horse-drawn carriage with his wife outside the Border Minstrel in Gosforth Park. Must've been filmed during his visit in 1977.
  10. Some of his excuses for trying to get out of it have been akin to the dog ate my homework.
  11. They had an article where they interviewed Joe Bugner and described him as Ali's greatest rival. They really know their shit.
  12. I can't really put into words how much I admired Ali. Great doesn't even cover it. Of all his great fights I think the most inspiring is The Rumble in the Jungle. The end of Round 5 is where the tide really turns. https://youtu.be/55AasOJZzDE?t=2355
