  1. I was taking the piss. I could see some people making that argument (again) were it to happen though.
  2. If he does come back into the side in the near future and does well it'll be brilliant man-management by Pardew.
  3. You miss the point. I wasn't simply highlighting the differences between the players to show why it wasn't a very good example to make your point. I was listing the player's attributes and circumstances to show why he's arguably worth at least as much money in terms of what a prospective club might pay (in response to your rather simplistic argument that a good player at mid-table club is worth more than good player at club that's just been relegated).
  4. I haven't seen it before but I saw a bit of that wife off it on 'Celebrity' Big Brother hoodwinking Gary Busey into believing she was a member of the Royal Family She looks like a sack of tetties.
  5. I don't think there's any great mystery to it. The club made about £10m profit last time they were announced. I think that would've been before the new TV money was factored in, aye? I think the way he's doing it means that he'll continue to turn a tidy profit with relatively low risk (that being relegation). Eminently sensible from the point of view of an owner with no attachment to the club beyond his investment. Extremely dull for anyone who gives a shit about the performance of the team.
  6. I think it marks the clear difference between being a fan and being a supporter. And it certainly did back then. The fact that needs explaining to you says everything.
  7. It's not soopafan stuff because you had a legitimate excuse for not going to the games so that's fair enough. However, it also means you weren't a supporter at that time when you clearly inferred you were with the 'trudged though the 80s' comment. You're only backtracking because you've been called out on that. Also, I'm hardly going to play the soopafan card when I've told plenty people I'm not that into the club any more, gave up my ST 3 years ago and have only been to 4 matches since then (3 of which were freebies).
  8. The only things you trudged through in the 80s were microwave meals and golf courses. I bet you could count on one hand the amount of games you went to in the 15 years before KK came back as manager. Name your top 5 Newcastle matches of the 80s (not including televised ones). Not a soopafan contest, I'm calling your bluff.
  9. Leroy Fer, a Dutch international midfielder, who is four years younger, has an aye for goal and was wanted by a side with plenty money. Not a great example to try and make your point, Phyllis.
  10. Again, what you think Tiote is worth isn't going to influence what Ashley would take for him. Ticks all the boxes in terms of being 'the right time to sell' if someone comes in with a bid near £10m (that's from Ashley's point of view - something else only you probably need explaining). Edit: I'll put it another way, who the fuck's going to pay much more than £10m for him? No one. That's the bottom line. If Ashley decides he's too important to the club (aye, rightio) or Pardew convinces him of that (even less likely) then that's the only thing that'll stand in the way of his going if an offer comes in in the bracket I've mentioned (if the personal terms are suitable). Players like Tiote just aren't going to command that large a fee though. He's not creative, he won't get you goals or assists and he's liable to get a canny few suspensions. Factor in his age and the fact he isn't good enough / imposing enough a player to interest the top sides. For a variety of reasons all the other players you've mentioned are more valuable, either because the clubs involved in the transfers are desperate for a goalscorer or because they're CL clubs / chasing trophies. He's just not in the bracket. That ship sailed about a month or two into the season after the one we finished 5th.
  11. Alex

    Gazza

Aye, with Jimmy Five Bellies and co. looking out for him at Dunston Excelsior.
  12. It probably doesn't need to be pointed out to anyone else but what Southampton were willing to pay for Shane Long doesn't have that much of an influence on what other clubs are willing to pay for other players.
  13. You playing the KBJ card. Have a word, man.
  14. Best thing / only good thing about Steven Taylor is that namecheck he got in the Burglar's Dog's review of The Pig and Whistle.
  15. I know I don't really care that much any more and I think it's a failry common sentiment, judging by people I know who've stopped going and the views they express. I think it's Ashley's biggest crime. You could argue expectations have been just as low (or lower) in the past and we've certainly had worse sides but I can't ever remember so much much apathy towards the club. We're a boring, nothing of a club with a very conservative outlook and a dull nonentity of a manager, so it should hardly come as a shock that people are being turned off.
  16. Think last week was a record for the number of debutants for us and that was excluding De Jong. It'll obviously take a while for them all to gel / adapt.
  17. Well, that was a thriller. I think a lot of people thought before the season started that, although the signings looked promising, we'd struggle to score. It does look like that might be a bit of a problem. Hopefully De Jong will weigh in with a few once fully fit, etc. but he's not the type of out and out striker that would, I think, make a massive difference to the team. Someone like Remy or Ba, basically. I suppose Cisse might rediscover his past form. When he's fit again I think Gouffran will make way and the sooner he's not starting the better, as all he seems to offer is graft these days. Not the end of the world or owt today but it feels like two points dropped against a poor Villa side that was there for the taking.
  18. The Shiralee was class. FX: Murder by Illusion was daft but decent. He was probably the best thing about Cocktail too.
  19. Did you used to get George and Mildred shown much over there by the way? And On the Buses? Explains the antipathy towards the Poms. I seem to remember Bodyline being canny as it happens. Although that was fucking ages ago. You've made some canny films mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jznUWGC9ewA
  20. We can go again if you want. This time you have to post a good TV programme. Winner starts. Edit: Double the Fist's been taken.
  21. I'll have to concede. Other than the aforementioned shows, plus A Country Practice and Sons and Daughters, I can't think of any more Aussie TV programmes
