We crate our greyhound as she basically used to have a shit and a piss almost every night on the kitchen floor. We tried all sorts and thought we’d cracked it only for her to fall back into the habit after a couple of good nights. She’s an ex-racer and she was two and a half when we got her so we concluded it was ingrained in her. I don’t particularly like doing it but she goes in last thing at night and one of us gets up about 6 - 6.30 to put her in the garden so she only sleeps in there. She goes in no bother (even at other times) and is generally a very happy, contented dog. I would tend to agree you don’t need one if you’re getting a puppy.

The other thing I’d say is match the breed to behaviour traits. It’s not a perfect guide to what they’ll be like of course but it’s a decent indicator. Talk to people who have a dog like the one you fancy getting. Don’t do what most people do and buy one just for their appearance

Consider getting a rescue. There’s loads out there need homes.

I think Stokes is the only captain we’ve had in that period who would use him properly. Look at how Leach looks better with right fields set. I don’t think Root in particular trusted him (I never rated Root as a captain and the senior bowlers set their own fields). There’s also the way you need to bowl more stock balls in tests and white ball cricket being more about variation. At Yorkshire he became a white ball specialist. Didn’t they stop picking him in county championship games? With what’s come out since you wonder if prejudice played a part. In any case, it’s difficult to say Rashid could’ve had a better career if he’d been able to concentrate on the longer format. He’s had an absolutely stellar career

When Longstaff got a new deal I think just about everyone thought that Howe is allowed the odd error of judgement. Maybe coupled with the odd bit of blind faith / hope that he’d seen something and Longstaff would get back to something like the highly rated youngster. But Longstaff really looks at home in the side these past few games. He looks fitter / more mobile too.
