I sort of know him as he used to DJ in the Tanners about 20 years ago when I was a regular when my mate lived round the corner from there. I don’t think he’s the type to rip people off. Genuine vinyl lover. He got a load of records from the relatives of a fella that passed away a while back. He took fucking ages sorting them and assessing the condition etc. I would definitely still use discogs as a guide price though (although sometimes on there people charge outrageous amounts for rare stuff).

Might be worth looking for a second hand record store that’s local. The Smiths stuff will always be collectible. That 586 Records in Gateshead is exclusively (or almost exclusively) vinyl and sells new and second hand. It’s mainly dance but he definitely does a little bit of indie / other stuff.
-
Also, as with picture discs, the sound quality of coloured vinyl was always terrible.

Was thinking why the 60s soul? Then I remembered the influence of Levi’s adverts. The Lady in Red though. I knew a lad in the 90s roughly my age (Who was otherwise seemingly normal and a good laugh) but who was genuinely into Chris De Burg. Fuck me

Close. We are going on a summer holiday If you wanna go, yo, Sven* We’re to London and New York City And we take a little piece of Amsterdam *At the time I thought it was “If you wanna go, you can swim”

I’d forgotten about that but I think that was shown as a one-off pilot. Then there was a 6 part series off the back of that but a year or two later. It was really well observed in terms of shite, cheesy local radio with the DJ and his forced zanyness

It was ok but I didn’t stick with it / watch them all. Also, iirc, the best stuff Peter Kay did (That Peter Kay Thing and Phoenix Nights imo) the writing team was him along with Neil Fitzmaurice and Dave Spikey. Talking of the subtle bits, in The Ice Cream Man Cometh one, he’s at some event selling his wares where there’s lots of people. And in the crowd you see Leonard. Or what you actually see is the massive cross with the wheel on the bottom amongst the crowd. The one Leonard took with him when he went preaching in town. But Leonard’s character hadn’t been introduced yet because his episode is later in the series.
-
I think that’s what he said. Are you having that? Or Are you having that one?
-
That Peter Kay Thing. it was presented in a documentary style narrated by Andrew Sachs. 6 episodes each featuring a local main character from Bolton. Phoenix Nights was expanded from one episode featuring The Neptune club. It’s worth checking out if you liked Phoenix Nights. Leonard in the one in the picture is a part time preacher and is the subject of that episode for being recognised with an award for being Britain’s oldest paper boy.

I rewatched them a while back and there’s loads of subtle little bits I’d forgotten about. Like in that particular episode there was the lass who worked in the cafe. And she had this photo from when she was young where she’d won a beauty contest (Miss North West United Dairies or some such). And Leonard had borrowed the photo and every time she asks for it back, he says he can’t find it. Then the next time he’s being interviewed for the programme in his room it’s on display on his bedside cabinet

They Live absolute classic. Starman is a bit of an underrated gem imo. I always had a fascination with gold discs they put on the Voyager spacecrafts too

I was trying to work out where the fuck it was. The host on that makes my teeth itch
-
I don’t think the characters are meant to be though? Speaking of which, I saw Kevin Whately on something recently and he looks fucking ancient now
-
Surprised at you with your in-depth knowledge of classic 80s films. But aye, he’s the one chopped up by the propeller. I think he’s a different character in the bar at the beginning when Marion has a drinking competition too? Been dead for fucking ages as well now

Think it works well because they’re a proper rag-tag bunch thrown together. Like after a while they become fiercely loyal to each other but Barry and Oz would never ordinarily be mates in real life because they’re chalk and cheese. The former being much better read but terminally boring. Oz, especially in series one and two is essentially a loutish piss head. But with a witty charm. Dennis and Bomber are older and world weary, especially Dennis. Neville the dweeby home bird, Wayne the brash cockney looking to shag anything with a pulse. Then Moxie’s just a total outsider with his convicted arsonist past. Oz was probably the funniest but Timothy Spall is brilliant as Barry

Nice to see my grandad’s old team Plymouth scoring an injury time winner against the mackems 👍🏻

I wonder how many hours they’ll add on if it’s still 1-0

The first ever international football match (or at least the first one with properly recognised representative sides) was Scotland v England. Played in Glasgow at a cricket ground. I wonder if the Australia v NZ match was the first in the southern hemisphere though? As an aside the first ever international cricket match was played between a touring Canadian team and the USA (in New York). Also, speaking of the days before the A-League, does anyone remember the Australian Pools? Which filled the gap of English football pools in the close season.

I can’t listen to them anymore like. I tried a while back and although I used to like them I find Perry Farrell’s vocals are really fucking awful

the press, both the sycophants and those that touch on the truth...

Yeah, he tells it like CT thinks it is. Which is fine and he may have interpreted things correctly but I just regard it as another opinion because I’ve seen zero evidence he has any access to reliable internal sources. Mind, I couldn’t sit through a press conference, they’re dull as fuck. -
Just reminded me of a lad at school who had a really thin knob which earned him the nickname butcher’s pencil

The alternative reality that is RTG delivers again

Fanny = arse in America so Paul Raymond would’ve been better. Although he’s been broon breed even longer. 3 stars - flawed but interesting

Two things about Hope that make him unpopular and not particularly relevant are, he looks did a negative angle in practically everything, all the time and he doesn’t seem to have the inside track. I wouldn’t say I hate him, I just don’t think he’s got much to say worth listening to. Even if he’s right about this, it’s not really anything different to what you’ve gleaned from looking at the situation along with a few others in here.
