got back from japan late Friday, only just recovered from the jet lag but well worth it. an unreal place. my main takeaways are: - tokyo is batshit crazy. we were there a week and didn't scratch the surface. makes london, paris and new york feel small - japanese people are welcoming, conservative, respectful and love to queue in an orderly manner even more than the brits, but tbh i get the sense they're a bit repressed and conformist. they also are obsessed with rules and process to the point it gets a bit annoying - sensory overload everywhere you go - clean as fuck, no litter anywhere, despite there being no bins anywhere either. everyone takes their rubbish home - no homeless people. i didn't see a single rough sleeper anywhere - everything works. it's efficient in a way you expect germany to be - a surprising amount of places still only accept cash, which i found odd for such an advanced economy - flights are expensive but you can live like a king while you're there because of the exchange rate. food is incredible but we didn't pay more than £50-60 for a restaurant meal for four with booze all trip. - their family marts and 7-11s are insanely good and make our supermarkets look appalling
