I’m not comparing the situations, which clearly are different, more the point that in both cases the buying clubs are trying to extract players from two unwilling sellers and therefore the selling clubs will only sell for big money. I don’t see that changing in either case unless the players hand in transfer requests. Why should an unwilling seller let a player go on the cheap? In Brentford’s case they might think Wissa’s goals, which could keep them in the PL, could make it worth losing him on a free in the summer. I don’t think we can confidently assume that they will hand him over for the price we want to pay just because we sign another striker first.

There are Liverpool fans who think £110m is a fair price for Isak and we’re in a similar situation. Unwilling sellers looking to extract as much as value as possible. I dunno. I don’t see it being that easy

i'm pretty sure he was nowhere near the top of our list of targets at the start of the summer but needs must and of the strikers left on the market, he is the one eddie wants, which is all that matters.

keeping Howe is more important than keeping Isak. He is the most important person at the club. He has been let down by PIF, given how brilliant he has been, with the lack of a structure to support him and how slow we have been to do the commercial deals that will give him what he needs to really compete with the big clubs. He’s massively overachieved with the tools he has been given. I wouldn’t blame him if he decided to leave for a club with better resources at some stage and I’ll be absolutely devastated when that day comes
