I'm still just raging that I took Villa to beat City, only for Gemmill to Jinx the Man U/Chelsea result. So raging in fact that I couldn't even bring myself to have a bet today.

Generic small time football blather thread FOREVER
Blastronaut replied to Sonatine's topic in Newcastle Forum
I dunno, Bent might have this one right. He'll be a decent utility sub for most of the rest of his career, he's just a good few levels behind being an absolutely top class player. Clearly he'll graft and do exactly what he's told. The goals for both Scotland and Man U seem to come from the fact he was originally a forward. Wasn't so long ago Steve Clarke was playing him in a back three, so while he's no world beater he clearly has his uses. -
Is it really that much warmer in London than Glasgow? Ange seems have ditched the perennial concerning cough and summertime knitted jerseys for chilling in a full suit in fucking December.

Frighteningly similar experience for my last testicular cancer screening. "Has your left testicle always been slightly larger than the right?" "My left or yours? Don't leave me hanging here Simon."

Well that sucks HMHM, especially with the interview timing. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise you're getting this addressed now though and not a matter of days after you've started a new job. You want to be fit and firing when you start something, especially if it's something you're looking at as more than just a stopgap. Sick-days while on probation can put a right downer on a job that might otherwise have been a cushy and plain-sailing affair.

I still reluctantly maintain that the blame for that whole Nu-Metal scene lies firmly at Max Cavalera's feet. Chaos AD and Roots sowed the seeds that a lot of that shite sprouted from. Soulfly watered the seeds and gave them the light to grow. I'll agree Patton is much closer to Max on the blame scale than, say Ice-T bit it's still all Max's fault for me.

I was just thinking about this again and have to tip my hat to Josh Scott for pairing solderless DIY pedal kits with IKEA branding and marketing it like it's basically like building Lego. If it catches on I'm out of a side gig, but fair fucks. Did you end up going for one? Klons are fun but if you already have a good boost and an overdrive thats in ACDC territory you're probably not missing much.

I forgot Karius was even at Newcastle. Kinda feel bad for him, the British press completely assassinated him even long before the in the Champions League final. He's surely fine as a short term third choice. Was only a couple of years ago Liverpool had Andy Lonergan in as an emergency backup, and looking at the state of Onana it's not mental to suggest you could do far worse than Lloris Karis as 3rd choice goalie.

Yeah really strangle call that. Seemed to let City play the advantage and then called it back for foul when they were clear through on goal.

Hitchens wrote and spoke about Pascal's Wager quite a lot (unsurprisingly) and as with a lot of things he has to say on the broader topic of religion in general, absolutely hits the nail on the head for me. Worth also pointing out he stubbornly refused to go back on this view when on his deathbed.

Tomahawk were great and a lot more accessible. This live performance is absolutely next level.

I quite liked some Bungle tbh, but the whole project screamed "Mike Patton's just discovered Cardiacs"

I hadn't really thought about it. Mrs B confessed a couple of years ago on a drive to down to Wales that she wasn't familiar with much FNM besides the singles. I think I glossed over the Mosley era and just played We Care a Lot, then most of The Real Thing and Agnle Dust. By the time we got to King for a Day I think I probably only played 2 or 3 songs and went "fuck it thats enough of that". Some of Patton's other projects interested me a bit more, (thinking mostly of the fantastic record that is Mit Gas).

Who the fuck wants that many sets of in-laws more like. Speaking of in-laws, my father in-law is absolutely convinced they exist, the one family members house on that side I think most of that lot are convinced is haunted. I'd venture most ghost sightings can probably be chalked off as some kind of halucinations, probably hypnagogia or something similar and that for whatever reason certain houses or environments make people more likely to slip into states where that can happen than others. Fuck knows though. Only thing resembling a ghost story I have is from back when I was about 6 and we'd just moved house. One of the first nights my dad's stereo randomly turned itself on in the middle of night when everyone was asleep. Parents checked on us to make sure we were okay and didnt get a fright. Faulty stereo or something would surely explain it, but no my little sister who would only be three or 4 at the time sits up in bed and says "it's okay, the old lady said it wont happen again, she's gone now." Wee weirdo that she was.

Contentious, but you're not far wrong. That year was a big turning point in the metal scene. Max Cavalera has a lot to answer for.

I'm often reminded I'm also not a metal fan by any stretch whenever I talk to other self-professed metalheads. "Modern" metal peaked here and died long before Des left the band of you ask me. It can probably be resuscitated but it will take an army of drummers like Des Kensel.
-
I get that reaction a lot to be honest. While we're talking about Scottish bands and I've already been called out for lowering the tone I might as well go all in the Gallus album this year deserved a lot more attention than it seemed to get.

I'm three sheets to the wind right now but based on tonight and last night's matches I'd say your lot are far more defensively sound. Haven't even looked at the fixture list but I'd wager the scales will tip. It's not even December yet.

Much as I love to watch them struggle I can't help but think most of their on-field issues are compounded by the obvious meek manager and shite captain combo. Seems to be a recurring theme in their downfall.

I commited a job interview faux-pas a good few years ago that still keeps me awake at night now and again. Asked about my "proudest achievements" I replied words to the effect of "I've always felt pride is an incredibly selfish emotion and don't like to focus on past achievements" before looking up and realising the entire office was draped in rainbow flags and thinking "ah shit, that screamed homophobe/religious bigot". Dunno where those words came from. Maybe I'd watched Se7en the night before.

On McCoist, aye. Loves the game and least thinks before he speaks to try and see beyond his inherent biases. On the Ref, disagree. Maybe something went down earlier but from what I caught late on he dealt with the PSG shithousery pretty well right up until someone from the VAR team had a word in his ear for the late penalty. I don't think for a second that was his decision to award it. Cunt shat it, but was under extreme pressure imho.

Couldn't find a fucking stream for the life of me. Eventually gave you and chucked on Barca/Porto which looks to have a been a thoroughly entertaining game and really open but It's just passively on in the background while I plan out insulating and venting the shed and buy more fur lined flannel shirts.

@sammynb was it yourself that saw Carcass back in the late 80's? Fwiw the death metal scene up here is on fire right now if you still have time for any of that. Penny Coffin, Brainbath, Rancid Cadaver, Coffin Mulch all worth checking out. Far cry from shoegaze or dreampop right enough but the whole scene is really thriving right now which is surprising given that it's all a bit of a throwback to late 80's scene when Carcass were coming through.
