I don't agree with Roeder. But I think it's too soon for Andy anyway.
  3. Give over man, I wasn't arguing against you, I was basically admitting I know nowt about it ! Qantas's recent record is obviously a worry, notwithstanding there's been no fatalities. A core requirement of mine from an airline is not crashing but ideally bits of the aircraft wouldn't explode or fall off either. Erebus was a strange one, in that it seems to have been a trip for sightseeing in the South Pole and wasn't a typical commercial flight. The plane flew into the side of a mountain based on dodgy co-ordinates and poor visibility. The Air NZ management of the day were slaughtered about the episode but it seems to me that Air NZ is much better run these days. Sorry to come in hard & heavy Erebus was a cock up (but then most accidents are) the grim thing was the way the airline tried to hide the fact the charts given to the pilot were out of date and smear the crew Yes, you're absolutely right about the cover up. I recently met the ex-marketing director of Air NZ at the time of Erebus. He told me they spent an absolute fortune on ads with Alan Whicker (who he described as the worst hypochondriac he'd ever met) around the slogan "Nobody Does it Better". It was scrapped when Erebus happened (and it was apparent most airlines did it better) and he was sacked shortly afterwards.
  4. This thread is like land of the giants! 5' 8" (with Swedish rounding) and just over 10 of your English stones. Eat what I like and keep myself pretty fit.
  5. I think I've said get rid of him in the past too. Happy to admit I was wrong as he seems a changed man and he's producing the goods now at long last. I hesitate to say it, but it's like having a new signing, long may it continue.

  7. Simpson? The key to keeping on a roll is a bit of luck with injuries. Ben Arfa aside, we've not done too bad up to now (touch wood).....our record in times past has been dismal....
  8. Whats your thoughts on the upcoming game Billy ? You'll win. Although we've won yesterday, we're playing shit and rarely have the ball. And we can't rely on getting away with a player punching the winner into your net yet again. Shola will probably score a couple, and your midfield will run rings around ours. You may complain about Nolan, but he's better than anything we have in that area. It is a case of keeping in touch, and then hoping the Indian chicken farmers take over and give us money to get a decent midfielder, and maybe a striker. Hope you're right. Nothing against you Billy or B/R, I'd just like to see Allardyce slink out of SJP on the receiving end of a beating. 'Casa St James' indeed.
  9. I'll be massively surprised, personally, if he does show a desire to do anything more than just stay up. I agree. The height of their ambition is to make a profit imo. Cant agree Without cheerleading for Ashley, you dont get into football for profit. Also after all thats happened, would you still turn upto every game wearing the colours if you didnt want too. Lets not forget in the scheme of his empire NUFC is not the be all and end all. I think he'll be gone as soon as someone meets his price however until then I think he will try and improve the club, his way. (Not the way we are used to or would like). I'm sure I read somewhere their key objective is to break even next season andthey won't be spending any more money until that happens. I interpreted that as meaning he's in it to make a profit i.e. he won't support ongoing losses, which is what most owners have to do. I hope you're right though, we'll see
  10. Pinch me I'm dreaming. Early xmas present for me, thank you Santa
  11. I think we should sort his contract out. Instability got us relegated last year, surely they can barter over severance terms if that's what they're worried about

  13. I bet the NOTW hacks do far worse on a night out, the fucking hypocrites. I don't know about Nolan, but as far as Carroll's concerned, I say good on him. If I was him, I'd be nuts deep in local talent too.
  14. Qantas has a very bad rep here in NZ. Plus bits have fallen off their arcraft on a regular basis over the last 3 years. I was once coming back from Melbourne and they delayed the plane for 4 hours; their attitude was basically "fuck off and find something to do, we'll call you when we're ready". As it happens the delay was due to a passenger taking ill (apparently) but they didn't give a shit about the passengers left wondering when they'd get home, it was like flying with a hyper expensive Ryan Air. I wouldn't fly with them again if I can help it. the point is they have a very good record on not crashing we'll not talk about Impact Erebus to a kiwi.................. Oof. I'm not a Kiwi btw. You sound a bit touchy about Qantas, you don't work for them do you? no - they're a good airline tho - personally I prefer Air New Zealand but their safety record isn't as good as QANTAS Dunno about safety record but from personal experience Air NZ pisses all over Qantas. And like I said anybody I speak to here won't fly Qantas unless they have to.

  16. To make steady improvement in the PL, we need investment in more players like Ben Arfa and less like Sol Campbell and James Perch. I'm not convinced we'll get it but maybe Ashley will surprise us. The key thing is to stay up and I hope he's learnt his lesson from last time - instability & underinvestment = relegation. To this end let's hope we stop dicking about with Hughton's contract and think about strengthening in January if we're struggling.
  17. An American billionaire has invested in English football at an unlikely club - amateur side Bedlington Terriers. The appropriately-named Robert Rich is the 488th richest man in the world, but has eschewed following several of his compatriots into the cauldron of the Premier League by investing in the Northumberland club, who play their football in the ninth tier of the English pyramid. Currently four top-flight clubs - Manchester United, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Sunderland - are under American ownership, but Rich has instead opted for the delights of the STL Northern League Division One. The 69-year-old chairman of the Rich Products Corporation, a food manufacturing and catering empire, was drawn to the area after tracing his family roots there. His wife bought him the title of Lord of Bedlington and he became interested in the local football side. Rich now sponsors the club's shirts, and plans to install a £30,000 electronic scoreboard at the club's home ground. The record attendance at Welfare Park is 2,400 spectators for an FA Cup first round match against Colchester United in 1998. Rich - who owns three baseball teams in the States - said he would not plough obscene amounts of money into the club, and vowed to increase his investment relative to the club's potential. He told local paper The Journal: "I haven't made any promises. Having said that, I would love to see them do well and let them challenge me to increase our participation." Club secretary David Callop is just grateful that Rich's involvement has eliminated the worries surrounding the costs of running the club. He said: "The backing has relieved us of the immediate worries of scraping by. Even at our level, clubs can take some running. For a night match when we might only have 60 or so paying punters, we have to pay £50 for the floodlights and £200 for the officials." However, Callop allowed himself to envisage the Terriers rising up the divisions, and perhaps even surpassing local rivals Blyth Spartans. He said: "In my dream of dreams I would like to see Bedlington step on to the pitch as a League Two side. "Who knows whether that might happen? But we are not splashing the cash on players now, we are slowly improving our ground. "Mr Rich could have bought Manchester United or Liverpool, I would imagine but he would sooner help the underdog."
  18. I think the best we can hope for is steady improvement i.e. as the likes of Smith go, quality additions are brought in using the money freed up and as finances improve generally. I think this is what CT's saying but I'm not holding my breath though.
  19. Not exclusively, but there are a lot of tits on here. I have to agree with that. Probably no more than on other forums though. Is there such a thing as a "normal newcastle forum" anyway?
