Fact is we got relegated under Ashley and not the Shepherd/Halls. How can you make a meaningful comparison between the financial performance of the 2 regimes given the impact of that disaster?
-
I remember when Liverpool played them about 87/88, live game on BBC. The Kop sang Liverpool Liverpool Liverpool, and then Johnny Barnes Johnny Barnes Johnny Barnes, to the same tune. Then quick as a flash from the Anfield Road End where the blue dippers were situated "Niggerpool Niggerpool Niggerpool" I'll always remember that. They've always been a wrongun horrible little club supported largely by uneducated racist scrotes. Seem to remember them hoying a bagload of bananas at him too. Aye he back heeled a banana in that game here's the pic. Most racist club in British footballing history from top to bottom. Sadly I look at that pic and all I can think of is a bulky Barnes in a black and white shirt, running with his arms moving faster than his legs, as though moving through treacle

I don't think I've anything to be thankful to Ashley for.....yet. He's generally taken the club backwards imo, through his own ego or folly, we've endured avoidable relegation and are now only just showing signs of progressing taking his ownership as a whole. He's not a registered charity so he's not putting his money in for the love of Geordies and he'll expect it back and more. If we end the season in the PL and continue the current progression then I might think better of him. I realise this is the "old board" vs new board" thread.....which is why I haven't really contributed to it. I'm not really that interested in debating the relative twatiness of the two regimes, I didn't agree with a lot of what the old regime did especially in its latter days but for me that's ancient history now.
-
Actually I expect most people aren't interested in discussing accounting definitions ad nauseam. Whatever the amount of debt, Ashley has still been a massive twat. You can't polish a turd after all.
-
He'll be gutted that you're not interested

I think we should give Krul his chance now.
-
I think we should move heaven and earth to re-sign Given on loan. Then stick him on the bench for the rest of the season.

I estimate the Ashley mistakes at around 40m (mainly relegation 25-30m and settlements for KK and fat Sam and his crew). Wages at the hight water mark were 68% of income. Not totally club destroying but getting there. I'm guessing it's around 50-55% for now (till we get rid of Smith and argualbly Guti or Collo both rumoured to be on 60-70k bracket). Next summer will be the time for the next rationalisation is my guess. Move Guti on. Dunno what Smith's on but he's not worth it. He'd be my top priority to sell (in the summer) if his wages are exorbitant. He's about to turn 30, and still has the best part of 2 seasons to run on his contract.

On Sky NZ we had a scouse commentator, I didn't catch his name but he was possibly the most biased one eyed summariser I've ever heard. Must've been an ex-EFC player, it was like watching Everton TV. I was spitting nails by the end.

What an arsehole

Early days, I'm pretty encouraged but let's see how we're doing after 10 or 15 games.

Absolutely made up! Never thought we'd win at Goodison, fantastic result.
-
If his ego was big, he justified it imo. Unless you're the sort who likes to sit there with your scoring book and Wisden almanac to hand, the game needs characters like Freddy. He lifted the team and shitted up the opposition too. Sadly injuries held him back and he underachieved (if you've ever seen his delivery stride you can see why he's a knacker). Ashes 2005 was his zenith and I'll never forget his bloodshot eyes after a night of partying, I still wince at the memory......plus the pedalo incident was fuck up genius....!
-
you're a moron on cef and you're a fucking moron on here aswell bily is crap and you want to drop him for cahill. i really do hate you I expect us to lose at Goodison.

What happened to YWC? Is it now NWC?
-
What about him backing Souness to rip apart that team, where does that fit into your bromance? I'll answer for him. Souness won the Scottish league, he was a good appointment. I think he won a league cup once too Whereas Joe Kinnear was a tip top appointment because he won, errr......

The sooner the UK stops acting like its still a world superpower the better imo. The main thing that's preventing massive defence cuts as a matter of simple common sense are the sheer number of ex-officers in influential establishment positions who can't bear to see the old regiments etc disbanded and budgets slashed. Plus the need to back up the Americans every time they start a pointless foreign war. However it would require massive investment to rebalance the economy away from relying on defence spending for jobs and growth. I don't think any of the numpties at the treasury are capable of this, judging by what happened with the coal mining, shipbuilding and steel industries in the 1980s.

Completely agree with you. I cant stand some things about the church. Through history they have modified their teachings to their benefit. Some stances the Catholic church have are absurd (using protection during sex for one). Anyone who knows a tiny bit about history knows how corrupt the church has been over the ages. If there was a God, the church would likely be one of the first for him to strike down Yes. You can understand Martin Luther's viewpoint if you've ever stood in St Peter's or the Vatican and reflected on the sheer amount of money collected from the poor to pay for it. Not that the Church is alone in that of course....

"Don't you know who I am?! I'm Jade Goody!!!" "Feck orf"

Yeah that as well It was no surprise to me that Pope Benedict tried to cover it all up, the shameful old Nazi.

God's chosen people, obviously. I think the Mormons actually have a register of people who will be admitted to heaven....if you ain't on the register, forget paradise.

I don't believe in God but my wife does. I quite enjoy a bit of ceremony now and then, say twice a year including xmas. She deosn't try to "convert me" and I don't try to argue her out of it. I don't see the need to try to tear down other people's faith anyway, I quite envy them their peace of mind actually. It seems to me most of the problems of religion come from the institutions that administer them, which are motivated more by Mammon than God anyway. Although some things defy all reason, like the Catholic church's absurd policy on celibacy for priests.

A very belated happy birthday to you, sir.

Yes. Holy Grail and Life of Brian. Meaning of Life is canny though, it suffers by comparison but it's got some cracking moments. Drags a bit though. I agree, but even so when you compare how many funny moments are in this film compared to some of todays multi million dollar offerings, it is quite unbelievable. Just arrived at "the middle of trhe film" and there already being a zillion more funnies than the likes of grown ups etc. Sheer brilliance. It's got some very funny moments but it's overlong and doesn't hang together imo. It's more like a load of hit and miss sketches cobbled together. I don't think it's the masterpiece you're making out personally.
