No insult, I quite like the occasional squier but if you have the time and are willing to buy 2nd hand there are better buys out there. Things like the original Squier Bullet, all tele running gear and necks, are great buys for parts, the Venus is brilliant (but not really a squier when compared to current squier guitars) and the bass VI, well it's the only way I could afford one these days.

Scott not sure if buying 2nd hand interests you but a 90s MIJ or CIJ Tele will give you a better guitar than a current squier for similar money. Another good alternative is the G&L ASAT, not sure what the current Korean versions are like but if you can find a US built version you will get a lot of guitar for the money. G&L if you don't know was Leo Fender's company he started in the 70s. The Johnny Marr Jag is it US made or Japanese?

Tom, have you checked out the pedals from Death By Audio? They do some interesting stuff, including a bunch of modulating effects.

FYI Andrew I think Fenders in NZ are shipped from Fender Aust, which means only Strats and Teles for lefties in Squiers; Strats, Teles and the Kurt Cobain Jag in standard Fenders. But shipping between Aust and NZ isn't ridiculous cost wise and I think (but you should double check) NZ is like here and you can ship things in and not pay tax (import duties) if they are under $1000. Happy to help organise something to be shipped across the ditch if you find a bargain on gumtree or ebay.

Hey Scotty, nice work, hope it comes back sounding just as you hope. I hope they dress the frets for you and don't mill them, it shouldn't need that, maybe shimming of the neck. On the bridge did you see on the new American Pro series Jags and Jazzmasters Fender has redesigned the bridge? Allegedly more tone, no buzz and completely intonate-able. Looking at their range it looks like they have discontinued the original vibratone bridge which is a shame. Even the Squires versions are using tune-o-matics. For some stupid reason I really want a Marshall 1974x amp.
