We finished 11th in the Hereford season, then 8th the following season. Then the slide as players got a bit long in the tooth plus injuries. Fucking abysmal second half in 73-74 apart from the cup run.

I saw every home game Tony Green played for us. He was every bit as good as they say and easily one of the best players I've seen in a Newcastle shirt. Funnily enough, I was looking at the Hereford program the other day and thinking how even he couldn't do anything about it. And we had a very good team out that day. Apart from Colo and perhaps Ben Arfa, its debatable if any of the rest of todays players would get into it. Perchino? I think not.

I thought we were going to get pasted after twenty minutes so don't know what Pardew said at HT but it worked. Credit to him for making the changes but some of it was his own doing. Once again, two clear learnings from this game that Pardew can't afford to forget. Perch can't play anywhere in the back four or any position where he doesn't have a player behind him to bale him out. He can't mark a man giving them too much space, is shite in the air and gets turned far too easily. Move him into a position in midfield and he is better but even then, I hope he doesn't have to play there very often as he is far too limited. Every time he's in the back four its reminiscent of his first half dozen games which don't bear remembering. Secondly, as I also said ages ago, Pardew hasn't discovered how to get Ba and Cisse to play together. Perhaps he never will because they certainly haven't been able to do it yet. Cisse's overall game was rubbish again last night when he was on his own and after Ba came on. If we are going to play one up front, it has to be Ba based on performances to date. I don't see any chemistry or understanding between these two so far. Fuck knows what's going on in training because it's not happening in a game.

Football will stand the loss. I'm not sure ManU will.

And yet, there are people who will happily kill their kids under the impression it is the honourable thing to do. A cultural thing. Not mentioning anybody in particular, of course.

I find it hard to believe any sane person can mention ben arfa in the same breathe as Peter Beardsley.

As I've said before, I don't think Ba and Cisse can play together as a front two. Both are good players individually, but I don't think they complement each other like good striking partners should.

There is only Ben Arfa who comes close to Adam Johnson in that list at this time. I agree that it might be difficult to accomodate him if Ben Arfa continues to improve, but it would be a nice dilemma to be in. I also think that, unlike obertan, Johnson will get better playing more games which he didn't do at man city.

Don't you think you are being a little anal? Either way, we don't compete for a very good player who actually supported the team as a kid, so you'd think it would be a dream move for him.

Johnson would be a good signing for anybody. It's sad that a local lad of such quality can come on the market and we can't compete for his signature. It's even worse when you think we have to watch obertan instead.

The doping agency needs to come forward with the incontovertible evidence for the sake of the sport and to deter others. I'm not holding my breathe.

Hardly a decent result considering the standard of the opposition and the fact it was a preseason game for them. You'd expect our fringe players to be busting a gut.
