You have to wonder if Ashley could actually try and salvage the situation if he finally stepped away from the club, became a distanced owner and put real football people in charge. I mean in the grand scheme of things he'd probably recoup his money a lot better, it's a scary thought but it wouldn't surprise me if someone had advised him on this. If he'd found an investor to add to the running costs would it be viable? Don't get me wrong, I hate the bloke as much as anyone and would prefer to see the back of him... but... if we're going to be stuck with him for another season better that the club would be run in a better fashion until someone with some financial clout can come in and buy us out.

If you appoint someone to a board with the title of executive director (football) then that person has total responsibility for the on field results of the club. Let's cut all the shit about signing players or spotting youth talent or his role in Keegan's exit - that was the bastards title. On that basis relegation is complete and total failure. Eggfuckingzacly! We wouldn't be playing in the second tier if they were "premiership quality players!" not all of them obviously. you telling me that Smith, Nolan, Barton and S. Taylor aren't Premier standard ? reason for relegation was due to a lot of factors one of which was some weren't prem quality and couldnt be carried by those that were - Barton and Smith were out of action for long spells if you remember. To be honest the majority of our team was easily mid-table Prem standard, the thing that sent us down was a lack of motivation from a lot of players who couldn't be arsed and had a lack of direction through bad management and running of the club.
