I agree that the behaviour of some was diabolical, however I think it was a minority. UEFA fucked up big time in their organisation and left the greek police pissing in the wind with the way they had to deal with it. I think it's downright disgraceful that some Liverpool fans who had genuine match tickets were tear-gassed simply because they dared to approach the turnstile they'd paid a lot of money to do so. The fact that UEFA are putting the blame for that solely at the door of the Liverpool fans is well out of order.

The signing of Barton is reminiscant of when we signed Bowyer. However, I think we have, in Allardyce, a man who can get the best out of the player than we did with SBR and Bowyer. As for the captain, not Given. He's a decent vice-captain but he doesn't have the coverage of the pitch in order to captain the whole side. I'd consider Butt (but we may bring in someone else who'd be better).

Due to the amount of 'decent' players who've come to Newcastle United over the years and been absolute garbage, I'm going to give anyone, Barton included, the benefit of the doubt. If he comes, he's our player and given the rebuilding needed, we have to get behind them all.

It's years since I sat pitch-side (season before the Gallowgate End became seating). I was about 7 or 8 rows back and what I vivdly remember was that the pitch was cambered east to west and it was difficult to see what was going on on the far side. They've probably sorted that all out now with the number of times the pitch has been re-laid since.
