the cartoon predates the toys by fucking years man, it was a japanese manga thing first. Speilberg is a big fan and has a lot of control over the sirection and shape of the film, but he's leaving Michael Bay in charge of the Directing. So expect big explosions and awesome actions scenes from Bay, but hopefully depth will be brought to the table by Speilberg
