Maybe. On the other hand they could have been more sensible and appoint someone more decent and especially not likely to further alienate fans... or they could have matched the ambition of the old manager and cared about the club and its fans... But that would have been as likely as you not posting nonsense tbh. -
He should have done if he was as passionate about his boyhood club he always supported as he keeps saying. It would have been more appropriate than to imply fans to be fickle imbeciles who will be happy after just a couple of positive results.

Judging by this the appointment of Bruce was a clever thing. I wonder if any other manager who wasn’t as much of a friend with the journalists covering football in the North East plus Alan Shearer would be able to deflect as much of the criticism for the appointment and treatment of Benitez and the fans.

It’s on par with his explanations why progressing in cup competitions is bad for a football team and similar nonsensical claims in the past. I have said it a couple of times but the fact that Charnley was at the club before Ashley took over and knows what it used to be makes him a serious traitor in my eyes.
