I don't think it has something to do with the attitude towards England in the world but rather with England's attitude tbh. If it was down to ze good standing in ze vorld ve vould never have hosted it tbf. I think England were a bit too confident (you even might say arrogant) when running the bid. Of course the process as well as the running of FIFA is a complete farce and needs a complete overhaul. But if you seriously want to host a competition you have to play to these rules at least as good as you (morally) can. Of course looking at the objective and logical reason England's was by far the best bid and should have won by a landslide. But it wasn't just down do the quality but also down to politics and that's were the English bid failed. Just from the outside perspecitve I think what the bid was missing was maybe a bit of humbleness. In the end there are probably far too many similarities between the performances of the FA and the English national team. They know they are good on paper but don't put in the right amount of effort (and may I say "planning"?) to perform successfully. I agree with you there. The FA have been a shambles in the run up to the bid. You need a dynamic figurehead who is actually running the bid and the organisation. David Beckham is nice, good looking lad but there's not a lot of substance beyond that. It's a shame like because I honestly think we could have hosted a great tournament. Well, we sent the nonsense babbling idiot Beckenbauer around the world back then. But I agree with what you are saying. I am not sure who would have been a charismatic figurehead for the English bid thoug.

Anyone but England would be bonkers imho. Though as always with Fifa it's not about common sense but about the quality of rim jobs...

Good idea, Pinky. Nalf.

Unlikely as long as there isn't clear evidence.

Alonso and Ramos got themselves sent off. The miss the last game but their slate is wiped clean for the knock of stages. fucking hell, Mourinho's not daft like. Barca fan over on NO seems to think that it happens all the time in Spain. so that players miss an easy game. be nothing gets done about it though. It's within the laws of the game. I can't see a rule that says you are not allowed to put yourself in a position where you get booked. The ref was clearly totally oblivious to what was going on, as well as the cheering seals in the Ajax end. It happened in Germany ages ago. A player (called Frank Ordenewitz) had been booked in the cup semi final. As it was his second booking during the cup competition it meant he would have missed the cup final. Though receiving a red card meant he would be banned immidiately and instead miss a league game. He asked his manager (Rutemöller) who said Ordenewitz should try and do it, i.e. getting a red card. Ordenewitz then collected a red card later in the game for kicking the ball away after the referee had interrupted the game. His manager admitted it being a deliberate red card straight after the game in an interview. Ordenewitz got banned for the cup final because of it.

The type of player we need to play alongside Carroll
Isegrim replied to Holden McGroin's topic in Newcastle Forum
I'll reckon he will leave Cologne if/when they get relegated this year. Probably a bigger team will take the gamble on him based on his reputation. He is a talented player who has only really performed for the national team in recent years. He'd make Martins appear like a member of Mensa though. -
That's him gone then.

Hopefully we have finally learnt our lesson and will start to play football in these kind of games at home. We need to show that we want to win these games from the first minute and stop this small team approach of unreasonable carefulness.
-
I'm sure he will at some point. Sam Allardyce doesn't die. But if he died he would get reborn as Chuck Norris.
-
Those tactics/performances were sufficient to just beat mediocre teams in the Championship over large parts of last season, it's certainly not enough in the top flight.

Thing is that you can claim once to be unlucky, but not three times. Blackpool, Stoke and Blackburn FFS

Idiots.

Great. Exactly what I expected.

I am not too confident. The team seems to do well when there isn't expected too much from them or in big games like the Sunderland game. Hughton seems to do very well to create a good fighting spirit for these matches. We're still doing terrible when we are supposed to dominate matches against weaker teams. That's why I am still unsure about Hughton as I have reservations against the style of football and his negative approach for these games. So I can see us fucking things up again after the recent good results and Allardyce claiming the manager of the year award afterwards...

I'd rather resign Albert Luque.

Load of rubbish. The ultra-generated atmosphere in the stadiums is tedious. The legal structure of most clubs is so that fans only have very little to say regarding the running of clubs. The low costs of tickets is compensated by annoying advertising all over the places. German fan culture at the moment is represented by self-obsessed Ultras. I can't wait for the day to get rid of these pesky morons tbh.

Rather now than later. They will just have played Man City a couple of days before as well.

If it's a choice between Frankfurt and Cologne I'd recommend Cologne (as I have a regional hatred for Frankfurt I wouldn't recommend it anyway). Both cities have suffered from some horrible modern post-war architecture. Cologne is an old Roman and episcopal city with loads of roman sites and churches (with the cathedral being the most important). Cologne is also famous for its local beer (only served it very small glasses though) and breweries. I would of course recommend Kassel. Not because it is actually that pretty but it is my home region! Don't know much about cheap hotels here unfortunately.
