Was thinking that exact same thing. It's not Gormany is it?? Jormany it is then...
-
They are all looking horrible tbh.

Thought they did more for us in WW2? They did but it was like Man Utd beating Sunderland to save us from relegation by one point. One thing fo shu the East Germans are much nicer than the regular Germans. To you, because they probably still hold you for a spy of the KGB/Stasi...

I really hope it were over the top wage demands who stopped us from signing Moses (as Simon Birds says) otherwise it would look even more baffling.

I found St Pauli a bit different tbf. English football could use a Pauli or two, certainly. Although you could argue there's just as much conformity in the whole skull 'n' crossbones "alternative" thing. Yep, I know a couple of St. Pauli fans who think that the commercialism of the club is nowadays on par with the likes of Bayern etc. Once they move to a new stadium an lose any kind of Millerntor nostalgia they are probably going to be a club like any other. Your team is Magdeburg? No, Hessen Kassel. They used to play 2nd Bundesliga in the 80s, failing to win promotion by finishing just outside the promotion spots three years in a row (once dropping from first to fourth on the last day and losing out on promotion on goal difference). They went bancrupt in the 90s and had to start at the lowest level.

That's about the size of it like. We've been worse than this with better support. I remember being 4-1 down at Derby 3 sent off, with the best support any club has ever had with plodders. Isegrim good post. The Bundesliga crowds make me cringe, especially what they do at corners ooooooooo aaaaaaaa, why bother, and when a player scores the tannoy bloke goes Lukaaaaaaas, and the crowd go POOOOODOOOLSKIIIIIIIIII like brain dead zombies. I really thought given our footballing heritage we'd be the last to conform, but it seems like it will be the Italians. Indeed, it's horrible and has totally put me off of any live games. Worst is, it can be found at every level. My local club is playing 4th Division football but the only thing for the fans to pretend they are still a reknowned club is by being the same unispired tossers like at any big club.

I guess it's probably a common theme all over the football world with fans becoming more uniform everywhere. I just read a good article this morning from a journalist from Freiburg having a good go at the fans of his hometown club. He says it was great when they used to be different and were proud to be different, now they (especially the young Ultras) are singing the same lame songs as others, shouting the same embarrassing abuse as others and lacking any kind of originality. That's the common theme where you see those Ultra kids taking over the fan scene and unfortunately Newcastle is no exemption anymore. They think of themselves as the saviours of football, deliberating it from the prawn sandwich brigades and passive bandwagon jumpers. But in the end they are of the same kind of modern football's boring conformity.

Though with Barton it's probably rather a question when he is back to injury tbh.

Totally agree, average, even for this division, sums up ambition and aspirations. Well what are we supposed to do??? Boo the cunt? Surely that's going to make the situation worse? I think people not expecting too much from him, might be not too bad. Who expects nothing can only get pleasently surprised anyway. And although people have their reservations it is not as if people do hate him right from the start. He has also the benefit of people not expecting too much from the likes of Ameobi and Carrol either. So at the moment he probably starts with being the least of three evils. Obviously the downside is that if Best in fact proves to be shit people will probably start to boo him straight away. That's down to the frustration bred from the apathy those useless idiots managing the club have created. I have no expectation from this club, but I do expect at least 100% effort from the team and coaching staff, woeful of late. Would I boo a player, no, this would not be right, you have to support them even though we have some really shit players. I've never understood the concept of booing players anyway as I've never seen it having a positive effect during a match.

Slightly phrased differently but... Also shows what a bullshitter Chris Nathaniel is.

Can't give 2.5 under new rules as after a year they're allowed to look around or summink. You sure about that? Isn't it the other way round if you think about the Webster case, i.e. that a player can look elsewhere after a protected period? Though, FIFA seem to have changed Art. 17 now, so I am not sure. Well at the very least it stops them running it down as they would if it was 2 or so. In the 3.5 the protected period is 2 iirc. Not sure these days. Nothe protected period is three years for players under 28 and just two years for players over 28. 2.5 years would have been enough, maybe an option for another year, for a player who is at the moment mediocre Championship standard at best and it's questionable if he can become a decent striker for a higher level. There would always been the chance to offer him a new contract in case he proves to be a hit (and people wrong).

3.5 years? That's a long time we will see Championship standard football... 5 year plan, my arse.
-
Laughing at them is a bit rich considering our rubbish performances, the crap players we are linked with and signing - and especially the league we are in...
-
If we're promoted will we be in better shape than 2 years back?
Isegrim replied to OTF's topic in Newcastle Forum
Hardly any of the current players is good enough for the Premierleague, so a complete new set of players is needed just to have a squad that looks able to compete at the level. Now we are linked with Leon Best. Oh dear. -
So, fatty isn't even prepared to invest in young talent he can later sell on for a good profit anymore. Looks like he isn't looking beyond promotion and the increased club value tbh. So all we can hope is for players who look decent enough for this level and to secure promotion, but anything more seems to be of no interest.

That's probably the BBC banned from SJP then...

Considering he plays for Rosenborg who haven't played in the Championsleague for a couple of seasons and went out in the Euro League qualification this year, I'd say no tbh.
