Well written Id say. I agree with the last paragraph as well. As most of us has said, while the likes of Jose etc would be a dream, it is just that. Big club we may be (in some aspects) we a CL side we are far far from at the moment.

I think we are, only because of the teams in worse plight than us. Derby and Fulham I think will go, Id also think Bolton could be in trouble having just sold Anelka.

We're a totally different club now to what we were then. We have grew as a club (not necessarily as a team). I think he'd find the facilities are leagues better than they were then. On him though, I'm like many. I dont believe it would happen, I think there are much better options. But I just couldnt say no. If he and Shearer came in, I reckon the place would be rocking. It wouldnt certainly see us through until the end of the season and we could re-evaluate from there.

Barton was picked once for England and never again. Winning over the fans and being a top quality player aren't always the same thing. I didnt go as far as to say they were top quality From memory, Barton, Lee and Howey were in the England team at the same time (once). But, more to the point, Peakcock and Barton suited our team. They both got a lot of stick like. Everyone saying both should get hair cuts as it got in the way In te end, Barton became a canny player for us. Another point, both could get in te team now.

Im not what Id call pro-shearer for the role. but in fairness he was captain for quite some time and in the later stages worked very close to the manager. I do think he is a manager character. What he doesnt have is the experience. I wouldnt object to him so much if he had a good no 2 with experience.

Only thing for me is that if he wanted this attacking flowing football, he should have known he'd have never go this from Sam. Fair play to him coming out saying he made a mistake though. I dont agree with leaving Pearson in for the remainder though. we've already wrote the season off (again!), Id say bringing someone in now would give them plenty of time to work with the players and staff to see what changes they want next season.

Im honestly not sure what they are thinking now. Just as the Harry thing fell apart, I thought Hughes was nailed on. Im not so sure now. Ashley comments would have you believe he is aiming higher than Hughes and Shearer is said to have put his name in the ring. People like Bobby have spoke out who Ashley may take heed of. Im torn between Shearer with a decent no 2, Hughes and maybe Houlier. Who I think may get it as you say, not who I want.

Don't you give me that JawD, it's a perfectly valid point. Thats been said again and again and while most (including me) said he should have waiting until summer. Ashley has now came out and explained he knew he should have put his own manager in as soon as he took over, but decided to give Sam a chance. Then Mort said it wasnt working to they agreed to dump him. If it wasnt going to be the end of the season (which looking at the last few games would have been a big risk, we've all said the second part to the season would be much harder), then before this window closed would be better to try and make any quick changes to the team (though there aint long left and I think whoever comes in will be lucky to land anyone).
