Let's not kid ourselves here, a one off game against other celebs/ex-pros that's he been training for for weeks is a world away from playing week in week out against dedicated pros. He still has the skills but it was time for him to go. I don't tjhink he'd have wanted his career to slowly grind to a halt playing for some mid-table also ran like...erm..us. i reckon he'd still be able to play 20 games a season. thats probably more than viduka.... not that it matters btw!

he'd still do a good job for any team in the premiership. I didn't realise actually how good shearer was until he went! If he'd have been injury free he would have been the best english centre forward in my lifetime. as for ben sheppard and Wilkes being good footballers, thats just hilarious. sheppard is just a fitness freak, wilkes is alright but doesn't know when to release the ball. I though that lad that played on the right midfield for us did very well.

the lad has talent, but his defensive work needed to improve a long time ago. his footwork isn't bad and his punching range and pwer are ok but he's not the worlds best, and will never be. if he gets the defensive coaching he needs he could challenge some of the better boxers in his division. otherwise he's not going to be up to it.

Looking at whats clearly going to happen, its nailed on that owens off. what of course needs to happen is we find a direct replacement for him. and fairly sharpish. Problem with that is of course the Ashley wage cap. its going to be a fraught season at st james park I fear. I bet the 2 new argies and guthrie are thinking " what on earth have we joined"
