Eg, I bet truancy levels are significantly higher than they used to be. How can you blame poor teaching if kids never go to be taught? Truancy is obviously an extreme example, but the principle is there. bit chicken and egg TBH - if the teachers can't or won't teach why are the kids going to turn up? Especially Patrokles shouldn't try it, as there are the same clichés about teachers in Germany as there are in England. And I think there is something true about them. And I say this as my younger sister is a teacher, as is the husband of my older sister and I am sort of teaching myself (though at university level). When teachers try to defend themselves about the work they have to do and how they have to work outside of school, it mainly applies to younger teachers. The main thing about teaching is routine. The preparation to lessons gets less the older you get, and the more often you already did cover a subject before. So, if you are about a couple of years in the job, you really get the benefit of long holidays, an easy daytime job etc. And I actually don't know any teacher who is seriously denying it. I think a large part of that is due to the way the country is run, everything from the government to schools, the NHS, even the fucking FA is run every way apart from the right and obvious way. The political parties all spout the same rubbish so it doesn't look like things will change, so many people see no point in voting. The media all have their own agendas of building people up and knocking them down. Tensions between people of different cultures are getting worse all the time. A lot of people have had enough and aspire to up sticks and emigrate as soon as possible, an attitude I find upsetting but to be honest also quite appealing. Okay, thats fair comment. Far from being my motive in asking mind. Anyways you neednt give specifics of your official job title and even if someone was daft enough to go and try to ID you then you could just deny it's you, though why that never occured to Swindon Mag has always baffled me. You can understand why people ask at least when you profess to have a working knowledge of everything-I'd say it dents your credibility when you're then so guarded about what you do do.
