Aye, this is what I'm saying though. I've spent tons of time in the former Yugoslavia and their "let's take advantage of the benefits of being theoretically Eastern European without actually aligning with the Soviet Union" approach was clearly the way to go (though if everyone had tried it, you have to assume even the creaking mechanisms in Red Square would have spotted the downsides eventually).
