Last year it's indisputable that he only put in one good performance in 10 appearances...not even Premier League ones either...lower league opposition with more time and space for him. He's got 3 times as may games this year to show what he can do. I don't think he's shown that much more spirit when he has come in this year personally, but if you do think he's shown himself to be the dogs bollocks why wouldn't you give Pardew some credit. You gave him all the credit in the word for taking his time with Ben Arfa last year. 1. No Im not? 2. Last year he started 1 game in the premier league. Thats not enough to rehabilitate a player who had been out for so long due to injury. No faith was shown in him whatsoever. And playing with a second string in a few cup games is not the same. 3. Because Pardew only turned to him in desperation when Jonas was injured. He didnt carefully manage him back and gently ease him in. The problem is imo Pardew doesnt like flair or attack minded players and only limits there use in the team where he has to. He seems much more comfortable setting us up as a counter attacking team that holds a defensive shape first and foremost. Anyway Im bored discussing Pardew. He seems much more comfortable setting us up as a counter attacking team that holds a defensive shape first and foremost. Anyway Im bored discussing Pardew. Neither of us is going to convince the other. There was plenty of flair and attack minded players on the park against the Mackems....it was "embarrassing" how exposed it left us. As soon as Premier League survival is assured, Newcastle’s hierarchy are planning a thorough review of a season which has ultimately fallen below expectations. Mike Ashley is preparing to fund another recruitment drive in the summer, but the United owner wants to see how the club can make more of what they already have. He wants to see the club challenging for European football again in 2013/14 and is eager to see lessons learned from this year’s struggle against the drop. That will see the entire set-up assessed after a campaign in which Newcastle have lost some of the momentum created by last season’s fifth-placed finish – and the club prepared to make tough decisions. The Journal understands Pardew is keen to bolster United’s backroom team, which consists of John Carver, Andy Woodman and Steve Stone – with Willie Donachie responsible for the reserves and Peter Beardsley as football development manager. The United boss has spoken this season about the draining effect the Europa League has had on his team, hinting the lack of preparation time on the training pitch has been to the detriment of his team’s fortunes. It would appear bringing in a new face to help out is one of the ways Pardew would propose to improve his squad next term. United sources have indicated this will be a busy summer at St James’ Park with the squad set for some-thing of an overhaul. The departures of Steve Harper and Danny Simpson are expected but Newcastle are prepared for other players to leave during the close season. The club seem ready to play hardball with Fabricio Coloccini over his future, with San Lorenzo expecting to lure him back to Argentina but unable to fund the transfer. Newcastle – who have indicated they will hold talks at the end of the season with their skipper – will not budge on the terms they have set out already. Newcastle want to add a left winger, a striker and a centre-back as a matter of urgency but are also looking at new goalkeepers. Reading’s former England under-21 stopper Alex McCarthy, who recently broke into the Royals’ first team, is understood to be a name under consideration. Meanwhile, Romain Amalfitano’s future is looking increasingly uncertain after he was included as the only senior player in an under-21 party which travelled to Cambridge for their 100th anniversary celebrations. Amalfitano’s Newcastle career has never really got started and Pardew’s decision not to utilise the French midfielder during his recent injury crises was particularly telling. Now the former Reims man looks set to return to France in the summer as part of the squad overhaul that is being prepared by United. United’s immediate priority is securing safety, however, and the club would have been boosted by the return of Coloccini to training yesterday. Cheick Tiote is also set to return for Saturday’s Liverpool game. Pardew said: “I think Cheick has a really good chance. I am hoping Colo will train on Thursday then we’ll see. Not as good looking or as good a footballer as me like, and he's a Celtic lover grrr. So he's not perfect, very astute when it comes to NUFC though. Seeing the January signings as a quick fix is niave imo. It's the exception to the rule that a non domestic player immediately fits into a team in the premership. Until next season (hopefully with at least another striker on the books by then) we can't judge him too harshly. He's had a crap hand for many months of this campaign - fielding the youngsters regularly at one point. Contrary to many peoples opinions, I think our "youth" team breaking through is more the players that just haven't been up to scratch after buying them as a good prospect. Marv doesn't have the right attitude - Ferguson has a lot of developing to do, Sammy never really made the impact we'd hoped for . Perhaps Brig and Campbell will break through - but the others are no where near premiership standard imo. For all his skills I think Marv would struggle even in League one , until wizard of oz style , he finds his heart and courage somewhere. He needs to be more fluid though, he needs to stop passing the blame making excuses. At the end of the day we're sadly only the 7th biggest club in this country these days and we won't catch Tottenham and Liverpool while Ashley is here as a club, we over achieved last season, we've underachieved this season. The pundits don't say he should be sacked, they write pieces asking whether the people wanting him sacked are correct. They make out how reasonable they are in coming down on the side of giving him more time.....well aware that the sack talk itself is what causes the pressure.
