I'm sure it did occur to them but it must be tough making ends meet on their basic wage. Some of these primadonnas think they are 10 feet tall and bullet proof.

My mam's old job was going to insurance companies and begging them to insure young lads on fast cars. It's a right fuck on, it's easier for them to pay the fines.

they'll need specialist brokers for the "fancier" cars though.

I remember a thing about Man United having basically staff/companies at hand to organise all their players stuff from insurance to changing lightbulbs in their gaff, you'd think it'd be worth employing someone to sort out admin shite like this for the players rather than have the bad publicity. A weeks worth of wage for the average first team member would probably sort out an assistant for a year

You're right. Although if their agents gave a toss about them, they could do the same.

Newcastle United are hugely disappointed by the article that appeared in The Sun on Wednesday, 1st May, concerning Hatem Ben Arfa, on the basis that their assertion was totally without foundation and completely untrue.

The Club is 100 per cent supportive of Hatem.

Articles such as this are an attempt to destabilise the Club and the team at a crucial period in the season.

Supporters should be aware that the Club and Hatem are taking the strongest possible action against this flagrant false reporting.

The Sun did not have the courtesy to check the facts with the Club or the player before publishing the piece. Had they done so they would have been told there was no truth in it whatsoever.

Hatem said: "I was shocked when my attention was drawn to the article in The Sun newspaper on Wednesday morning.

"It is totally inaccurate, misleading and has caused me great personal upset and frustration."

So that's him off then.

For the current hierachy to be flapping so audibly at these recent stories like it's a new form of football journalism and to be calling out all and sundry as liars is laughable tbh . The neck on them man .

The very same jokers who've revelled in using the media to their own advantage - with varying degrees of success of course - since day one .

They know the fuckin game that it is as well as the buck-toothed mouthpieces from Sky and the red tops' nylon-suited hysteria-merchants .

They just look like big bairns with their 'outrage' and the ott hair-trigger counter-reaction they've been putting out seems rather self-revelatory in both showing their true colours as pseudo bullies/control freaks and highlighting the probable extent of behind the scenes friction unfortunately .

None of this is useful to the entity that is NU obviously but it's all just par for the course non ?

Spot on, just do the fucking talking on the pitch, the only place it matters (I'm aware we seem mute atm).

HATEM Ben Arfa hopes to open talks on a new long-term contract next week, The Journal can reveal.

Despite a week of a chaotic developments at St James’ Park – and the mispronunciation of his name by new director of football Joe Kinnear – Ben Arfa remains steadfastly committed to Newcastle and has “no interest” in moves to either Monaco or Liverpool, which have been mooted.

Indeed, The Journal understands talks over a new five-year contract could even begin as early as next week as Newcastle’s new hierarchy begin to put plans for next season into place.

The resignation of Derek Llambias has left a void, but it is understood that Lee Charnley and finance director John Irving will step in on important issues like contract re-negotiations and transfer issues in the interim.

And Ben Arfa’s new contract – which has been recommended by Kinnear and Alan Pardew – could be the first bit of business.

It would be a popular move with Newcastle supporters, who see Ben Arfa as a key man moving forward. The good news for them is that despite everything that has happened this week, he feels the same.

The Journal understands that Ben Arfa took a pay-cut to come to United from Marseille. Now he would like his long-term future secured amid interest from Ligue 1 club Monaco, who have made discreet enquiries about his availability.

“Hatem doesn’t want to go to Monaco or Paris Saint Germain, he wants to play in front of a stadium full of Newcastle fans who feel the same way about him as he does about them,” a source close to the player said.

After a devastating week at United there was a sense of the dust settling at St James’ Park yesterday.

The Journal understands that Kinnear regrets giving the now-infamous Talksport interview that has made for such an uncomfortable first week in his new role. He spoke to the radio station because of his personal connection to Bobby Gould, but accepts now that he should have stepped back following Sunday’s surprise announcement.

He is unlikely to give any more live interviews and will take a brief, pre-planned holiday before the start of the season. Initial talks with Pardew were said to be “promising”.

Although it had been speculated that Carr would walk out, the chief scout’s relationship with Ashley meant that was always unlikely as he has the trust and support of the owner.

Clarification has most certainly been sought on his remit in the wake of Kinnear’s appointment, but he is ready to push on in the hunt for new overseas talent.

Carr’s relationship with Pardew is not beyond repair either, with the pair having spoken regularly since the season ended. As recently as Monday they were in contact to talk club business, which suggests there is a willingness to move on.

The question now is whether Newcastle will train their focus on the domestic market – which is something Pardew has been pushing for several years.

The Journal understands there has already been contact between the United manager and striker target Darren Bent, while he has also recommended West Ham defender James Tomkins as a centre-back target.

United pulled out of a move for FC Twente defender Douglas earlier in the week but he was not a cast-iron recommendation of Carr’s. He began to watch him again at the end of the season – after Newcastle were alerted to his availability on a free transfer – and he impressed with his performances.

Newcastle do not expect to move forward on recruitment until the early part of July.

Meanwhile, reports in Portugal have claimed United will be heading to a training camp near Porto. There are also claims that the Magpies will line up against FC Arouca on July 23.

Hope this is true, we need some sign that things are settled/settling behind the closed doors. It could of course be a way of raising awareness of Ben Arfa by his agent. I'm looking at the rest of the league and they're all either already signing players, or they're gearing up for it. The worrying thing is that sentence stating we're not going to begin recruitment until early July. Now I though our strength lay in our scouting, meaning we should have a dossier of players on the table already. Why the delay?

Early July is only a week away like so it's not much of a problem or surprise.

Hope the bit about Ben Arfa is true, it would send a very good message out about the club at a time when positives have been few and far between!

Well, it's only a week away now, but the season ended on the 19th of May, that's 6 weeks ago, it'll be 7 weeks come 30th June, and early July doesn't mean 1st. I'm frustrated because the window is open, and we're yet to see any movement when those around us are already strengthening and settling.

Sooner we sign Lewandowski, Thiago Silva and Rene Meulensteen the better

I thought the window wasn't open yet?

This window opens the minuter the old seasno shuts.

"There are two transfer windows in each Barclays Premier League season.

The first commences at midnight on the last day of the season and ends on 31 August if a working day - or, if not, on the first working day thereafter, at a time determined by the Board.

The second transfer window commences at midnight on the 31 December and ends on the 31 January if a working day, and again, if not, on the first working day thereafter, at a time determined by the Board.

Temporary transfers can be made permanent outside of the transfer windows. For further information please see the rules in the Premier League Handbook."

Its not really different to any other year tbh, not much gets done early on as most folk are on holiday till next week. Dread to think what effect Kinnear's going to have mind, if its true that he put the mockers on the deal for Douglas just to show Carr and Pardew who is boss on the first day then it doesnt bode well. Aubameyang at St Etienne looks to be on the radar of every mid ranking team in Europe so even without the influence of Kinnear that would be difficult to get over the line. But Carr is paid to find alternatives to the top targets, so we'll see if hes allowed to get his way. Ben Arfa should be given a new deal asap.

Didn't we get Cabaye and Ba at the beginning of the window?

I mean I know what you're saying, but it doesn't stop me getting nervous when I'm looking at the rest of the league getting on with their business.

Yeah, but if our top targets were Douglas and Aubameyang it has to be said theyre both still at their clubs. We've been linked with Carroll, that was never realistic though iyam at 80k a week and the scousers have signed a Luis Alberto, who looks ok and at about 7mill for a 20 year old seems reasonable value. Apart from them?....not a lot in our area of the market...

We signed Ba & Cabaye about this time two year ago. Not too much different than if they come in a couple of weeks from now.

Of course the earlier any new players are integrated into the group the better but we're not yet back in training so they won't be missing anything.

Arnt we actually ahead of the game?

Didn't we bring forward some of our summer targets to January?

:)

Our squad wasn't fit to compete last season & it needs a lot of work to be ready for this season.
