When is it acceptable for a bloke to cry?

I see lots of blokes cry when their babies are born. It's not so much sobbing as a manly sniffle and wiping their nose with the back of their hand but its quite endearing :)

Personally I think it's just pure terror and relief that they didn't have to do the giving birth bit...

Look, I know for a FACT what you nursey types are up to. "Yes" i said when asked about cutting the cord. Fucking PAPER SCISSORS! I was on about 5mins trying to cut that. Was gonna use my teeth at one point

I sniffled at the birth of my first, went on a bit like. Second was out in a flash but my "oh that was quick n easy" wasn't that well received. I'd have cried then actually, if wor lass connected anyway :D

I was once going through a dreadful break up and I was extremely upset about it, drunkenly one night I shed a tear on the tube. Some stranger leant over to me, gave me a hard stare and said through gritted teeth 'save that shit for at home'.

Brilliant

When my daughter was 5, she had a hamster. One day, she was sat stroking it and said to me, " Dad...what would happen to my little hamster when it died, would he go to hamster heaven"

The little sad look on her face as she was stroking the hamster made me shed a tear, so I said, " when your hamster dies, we will get a little shoe box, put some comfy straw inside and lay your hamster on that straw so it will be snuggly and warm...we will then dig a little hole and put him in and cover the hole."

She looked at me all sad, which by this time had me fighting tears and I had a massive lump in my throat and she said, " Dad, will he go to heaven" and I said, " of course he will! and then to celebrate him going to heaven, me and your mother will take you to Macdonalds for any meal you want, plus we will take you to Flamingo land to see all the other animals."

She looked up at me, eyes bright and beaming with a great big smile and said, " that's great Dad, can we kill the little bastard now." ;)

I've never cried when any of our dogs died. i left that to my mother.

I have to admit I had a tear in my eye just before kick off at the 7-1 Leicester game. The atmosphere was amazing. I think that may have been complete surprise that the East Stand was rocking though.

Did any of you cry when SBR died? I was gone at the charity game the week before he passed away when Nessun Dorma was sang. He just looked so frail and wistful that it really got me. More so than when he did finally die.

I'm not sure it's physically possibly for the former to man up.

or the latter.

i'm not ashamed to say i cried for days when our cat was taken from us a couple of weeks ago.

i could still cry now & whenever i think of my dad & how after 3 years i still miss him, i cry.

aside from that, i cry at happy endings; i'm very sentimental in that way.

shakespeare comedies always do it for me; all that happiness, optimism & hope - it is too much for me to bear

How many people cried when lassie was in bother in the films?

How many people have cried over animals dying in films?

How many people have had to try and swallow the golf ball logged in their throat whilst trying not to look a right sissy when something sad happens in a film to do with a dog?

I'd guarantee everyone has but bravado will stop a few from admitting it I'm sure..you know, the real hard cases who eat glass for breakfast. lol

People can admit to whatever they like, I'll not stop 'em.

Reckon I'll shed a tear when the 1st little'un arrives. Not a big crier though.

Your pet doesn't love you. Your parents did though. My Dad almost died in January and despite me being completely independent it was the worst experience of my life. Thanks to the NHS he was saved though.

I'm glad he pulled through Renton.

I can relate to that, losing my Mum at 12 was tragic, but I was very young. But losing my Dad in 2008, after watching him for over a year deteriorating and losing his mind was the most traumatic thing ever to go through. He was 5 and 1/2 stone when he died. I hadnt even been that close to him since I left home at 16 either...but I looked after him those last couple years and did all I could. It's awful to lose a pet you love but it is not the same.

Death of a pet dog, that's about it. Death of a family member? Be brave for your remaining loved ones. But yeah a pet dog is another matter entirely.

If you're crying about a cat, man up.

No that's so wrong. Cry if you feel the need to and let out your feelings. Even if you have to wait until you are alone, that's fine but dont store it all up. My hubby did that after the death of his Dad 16 months ago. He held it all in...though to be fair maybe he felt relief at first that it was all over after watching his Dad stuggle for ages. But then 6 months down the line it all hit him and he was a wreck.

That's awful TR, I feel for you. Losing our parents is something most of us are going to have to face and for most it's a horrific prospect.

We had a weekend celebrating my parents golden wedding anniversary this week. The odds of this happening early January were about 20 to 1 against. My sister also has recovered from a terrible illness. Best weekend ever tbh. On the negative side though, several friends and family have been diagnosed with terminal illnesses. Makes you appreciate life is transient and you have to make the most of it. That's a lesson I've taken to heart and will never forget.
