Poor performance by too many key players for us to come off the back of anything but a good beating.

We did look good in spells, Ben Arfa especially, he was fantastic today. Him and Santon. Jonas done ok.

Cisse, Ba, Cabaye, Anita and Coloccini where awful today.

Really didn't think Chelsea were anything special and on another day we could've beaten them. Where is the 4-3-3? It was so effective last season. As it was, HBA was too far wide to pose any real threat and our midfielders were losing out constantly.

Anita looked pretty poor to be perfectly honest and Cabaye's set pieces were utter rubbish. We also need a new right-back. All credit to Simpson, but I can't count the number of times when we've found ourselves in a good position on the right wing where any sort of attacking right-back could really do some damage, only to watch Simpson lose possession, turn back to the keeper, or put in a shite cross. This isn't to make Simpson some sort of scapegoat as he has other positive qualities but on attack he really is a weak link.

Agree with 3 of those.

An absolutely abysmal first half lost the game. Pardew has to take the fall for it. Everyone standing back at the edge of the box waiting for them to come at the goal. You cant let a team of that quality do that. No pressing or urgency whatsoever. Ben Arfa was the only one looking to go at players and trying to make something happen.

Much better second half and we could have gotten back in the game, both the strikers had great chances to score but it just wasnt happening today.

Horrible performances from Cabaye, Ba and Cisse. Worst I've seen them play. Especially the strikers, the passing was woeful and they seemed completely off the pace, much likes the Spurs game. Hope these three can get back to close to their best soon. Anita seemed like a poor man's Tiote, although much too early to judge him of course and he does look to have some good attributes once he gets used to this league.

Really really disappointed with this performance, for the first time in a long time felt like some of the players just weren't up for it. Plus the tactics were woeful. Only bright side was HBA again, absolute class and the only one looking to make things happen.

Thought their 2 holding midfielders stifling any of our (infrequent) attacks, combined with how scared we were of their front line was starkly apparent in the 1st half.

I don't think they were great, but Ba, Cisse, Cabaye and Anita just weren't at the races at all and that meant their suspect defensive players were never really pressured.

Be interested to hear what Pardew says about it.

The best team definitely won today although I thought we did ok defensively in the main.

We just had a few players not playing to their potential for some reason. Cisse and Cabaye being the two that stood out as being below par.

It's just one of those games where we dust ourselves down and take it on the chin because after all, we got beat by the European champions and potential Prem title winners.

Hatem was a class above and good to see Collo back.

Cisse and Ba both had a strange game, they need to work out what zone they want to start in when we have the ball, if they stand too close it's far too easy to cover any of their dappy runs. In away games I really think one has to drop off (Ba used to do that a lot more). Chelsea just ran the middle the whole first half which is no surprise as they are stocked with world class talent.

It looks like Pards wanted to give it a go and both strikers started high and central and we were trying to hit them earlyish..These balls don't really work against an organised back 4 and Chelsea were extra vigilant after the scare the other night.

We were far more threatening and made a game of it in the second half mainly cause it looked like Hatem had a free role and everybody had stepped it up. Cisse could have done better and Ba should have scored 10 yards out. We look a bit rusty and some still look like they need a couple of games (Cisse, Cabaye).

Didn't expect a win but was looking forward giving them a scare. Early days.
