If we were to sign 2 players in January

A long time off I know but, if we were then where would you want us to strengthen and who would you want us to be looking at?

Keep in mind the club policy on transfer expense, age and where we seem to prefer buying from.

if we were to have to ship out 2 of the squad to make room (not the younguns) who would you want out?

A centre half is a must and if Douglas is that man then fine by me.

Other than that I i think we either need a different forward to play 442 or change to 433. Another full back does seem the obvious choice given many of ours feel like "fill ins".

Probably get a quality left back and central defender. No idea who.

I would lose Simpson and Jonas

saw that one coming

I'm with you on the positions though, Santon impressed me a lot at RB on his natural foot this weekend. a naturally left footed left back would be nice to have again, shit as he's done at liverpool I think we've missed the partnership between Enrique and Jonas.

Shawcross? theres a name I didnt expect to see in here

Admittedly he's not exactly the best defender in the PL but he's considerably better than Williamson, would definitely come and is the right age. He'd compliment Colo well too I reckon.

Wouldn't pay anything over £4-5m for him though. We're just crying out for a centre back and right back above every other position.

Shawcross looks like a Stevie Taylor type to me, get the ball out, not a lot of finesse. Seems a good enough player, in the England squad. But he's English. In other words not a fuckin chance would Ashley shell out the money required. If we get anyoone they'll b forreign, cheap and young, which sort of rules out Debuchy at 7mill...think if he was 5 we'd do business..he's still at Lille, did anyone else actually come in for him?..

My mate went to see Fulham play Twente the season before last and came back raving about Douglas, this was before we were linked with him. Says he's very well suited to the prem.

Only thing with this is the Demba Ba sttuation...cant see him leaving in Jan, but if he does it puts a different complexion on things...

Debuchy and Douglas.

Snap.

Sammy, Shane, HBA, Jonas, Raylor, Marveaux, Obertan is more than enough competition for the wings

Tiote, Cabaye, Anita, Bigi, Gosling, Perch, Amalfitano is enough competition for midfield

Ba, Cisse, Shola, Campbell up front

We need competition for CBs and FBs. Maybe a young striker thrown in too

Am I not right in thinking that Debuchy has been very poor so far this season?

I've not seen any of him but reports would suggest that you're correct. Hard to know whether it's a simple case of poor form or whether he's still gutted at not getting his move in the summer and that's affecting him.

Highly doubt we'll be back in for Debuchy. Would love to but highly doubt it.

Centre back and a left back.

Don't lose anyone midway though the season man. Don't know what sort of injury situation we might face in the second half.

I'm sure Pardew's made reference before about us having been in for Cisse before we eventually got him.

Centreback is an obvious one, Taylor's a good enough player with Colo but he regularly gets injured and the other two simply aren't good enough to fill in for any length of time. We need a first choice who we can rely on to stay fit and then Taylor should be back up. I would imagine that given his contract situation we might be able to get a good deal on Douglas come January but I've no idea of how good he is.

I'd love to see us sign Debuchy but I have doubts about whether that deal can be resurected. I can't see us paying any more for him so we'd be hoping Lille get knocked out of Europe (could easily happen given their start) and/or them losing a bit of faith in him (if his mind isn't in it and it's effecting his game then this could be a possibility). But I still feel left back is more of an issue with us. I like Santon and I think he's done ok there but I still feel he would do better on the right due to him being right footed. If we could get a good attacking leftback and then move Santon to the right, I think it would add much more balance.

If we could do this, I'd happily see Simpson moved on and Gosling would be another that wouldn't be a loss to the team. Marveaux could also go without weakening us much from what he's shown so far, but I'm still hoping we can get something out of him.

If Ba moves on then I think Gary Hooper would be a good replacement.

He looks like a natural goal scorer to me and I know the SPL is not up to much, he is doing the business in the Champions League.

Apart from that I agree with the majority that we need another centre half and a specialised left back.
