Rangers: Mike Ashley wants EGM and £5m loan returned

By Chris McLaughlin
BBC Sport
Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has called on the Rangers board to hold an extraordinary meeting to pay back his £5m loan to the Glasgow club.
Ashley, who owns a 9% stake in Rangers, has also asked the board to explain why the club has been delisted from the AIM stock exchange.
If the loan is paid back, the club will regain security over its branding, the Murray Park training ground and the club's retail rights.
All are currently held by Ashley.
The move comes after the Sports Direct owner lost control of the Ibrox boardroom to South Africa-based businessman Dave King, who is awaiting Scottish FA approval to become the club's new chairman.
That followed an EGM called by King in March, when shareholders backed the former Rangers director and his allies.
Paul Murray, who was named interim chairman, was this month formerly cleared by the SFA to become a director of the Scottish Championship club despite sitting on the board along with King in the years preceding Rangers' insolvency in 2012.
Police investigating takeovers at Rangers last week searched Sports Direct's Derbyshire headquarters.
The company stressed that it related to "various persons previously employed by and or associated with Rangers" and was "not directed at Sports Direct or at any of its directors or employees".
More to follow.

This was always going to happen and as i mentioned a while back could happen to us and we're relegated. He could ask for the loan money back sending the club in to administration. Anyone who thinks he wouldn't just watch what happens here.6

Yeah but he owns us outright, who is he getting one over on by doing that? it would cost him millions in the end when it was decided the debt was to be paid back at pence in the pound or whatever.

He's getting one over on us the fans who despise him as much as he despises us the millions it would cost him are a drop in the ocean when you consider he's worth £3.5 billion.

You dont think there would be repercussions if we drop out the premiership ?

I don't think he'd suddenly stick us into administration, costing himself millions and ensuring his favourite SD advertising vehicle imploded at great cost to himself.

Because that would be fucking stupid.

If the club loses premiership status then Ashley's/Sports Direct loses his 2 hours of free worldwide advertising every fortnight. The football is a mere inconvenience lose the premiership status and we will be worth next to nothing for him & that's why i think he'd pull the plug.

He's right. I am sure he could conspire to fuck up completely and not get promoted as well. In which case he would start haemorraging (sp) money without the advertising and importantly without the fans.

We would not be worth next to nothing. the value of the players, the stadium, the training grounds, the ...

Oh what's the point.

Aye we're fucked everythings shit and we're going to die.
