Having rediscovered a love of beach holidays to an extent, I enjoy high 20s broaching low 30s as you can still get around. High 30s, broaching 40s is very sapping and limiting IMO. The food is superb, people are friendly and welcoming. The sea water is crystal clear, they're cheap, beautiful and temperature is ideal in late or early season - high 20s to low 30s in June or September. There are a few resorts to avoid but if you do your research, you can some find some beautifully isolated and idyllic spots. I'm off to Kefalonia next month, as it happens. Got to say I'm more interested in natural beauty than anything else, modern cities in deserts don't tick any boxes. it's a party city so you arriving in that frame of mind is helpful, though both my parents, in their 60s, had a blast went they went too there's something there for everyone. it's not all gambling, ridiculous themed hotels, pool parties and obscene night clubs - the food is excellent and varied, from all you can eat buffets (with food you would actually want to eat) to michelin star restaurants. it's hard to get bored with the array of shows, shopping centres and even just wandering around taking in the weird and wonderful sights - it's like Disneyland for grown ups. i've been with my mrs twice, on a stag do with six other lads and with my brother and i've had a blast every time. i've never left without losing a wedge of cash and a fuckload of braincells, but i've aways departed with a smile on my face. the hotels are relatively cheap too - it's affordable to enjoy five star luxury there as most places know they make their real cash on the casino floors so they want to lure as many punters in as possible. plus a trip there can be combined with some of the most unbelievable natural beauty spots in north america. the first time i went, vegas was my final call after driving up the pacific coast highway, through big sur, seeing migrating whales in the ocean then up san fran before heading inland to yosemite for stunning hikes up granite mountains like this before doing the desert drive through death valley. vegas is the perfect way to end a trip like that. a long weekend of hedonism after the roadtrip of a lifetime. My friend was browsing at holidays and found a week in Vegas for less than £560 each (flights & hotel) so on a whim I booked it for me and my lad and we had an absolutely brilliant time. I'm still struggling to see what's to dislike. nice hotels, lush beaches, hot weather, plenty of restaurants. Maybe I've got this holiday lark wrong but that's pretty much all my boxes ticked. I've already done a week in Rome and a cruise to Venice, Athens, Dubrovnik, Montenegro etc this year for my culture fill. Quick example; when driving through the Soledad Valley I asked him to pop on something atmospheric, something grand. He chose Nickelback.
