Holidays 2015

As I said, the temperature would be an issue for me. Having rediscovered a love of beach holidays to an extent, I enjoy high 20s broaching low 30s as you can still get around. High 30s, broaching 40s is very sapping and limiting IMO. It may be slightly cooler than that in September but there's still a chance of the extremes.

The Greek Islands are perfect for late September. My favourite Euro beach holiday destination. The food is superb, people are friendly and welcoming. The sea water is crystal clear, they're cheap, beautiful and temperature is ideal in late or early season - high 20s to low 30s in June or September. There are a few resorts to avoid but if you do your research, you can some find some beautifully isolated and idyllic spots. I'm off to Kefalonia next month, as it happens. The last chance for a trip out of school holiday time for a while, sob

Vegas is mint btw, nothing like Dubai at all really, once you look past the garish hotels and shopping arcades

Vegas has never, ever appealed to me and I say that as a travel nut.

What actually is there to Vegas once you've looked past them? Got to say I'm more interested in natural beauty than anything else, modern cities in deserts don't tick any boxes.

it's a party city so you arriving in that frame of mind is helpful, though both my parents, in their 60s, had a blast went they went too there's something there for everyone. it's not all gambling, ridiculous themed hotels, pool parties and obscene night clubs - the food is excellent and varied, from all you can eat buffets (with food you would actually want to eat) to michelin star restaurants. it's hard to get bored with the array of shows, shopping centres and even just wandering around taking in the weird and wonderful sights - it's like Disneyland for grown ups.

i've been with my mrs twice, on a stag do with six other lads and with my brother and i've had a blast every time. i've never left without losing a wedge of cash and a fuckload of braincells, but i've aways departed with a smile on my face. the hotels are relatively cheap too - it's affordable to enjoy five star luxury there as most places know they make their real cash on the casino floors so they want to lure as many punters in as possible.

plus a trip there can be combined with some of the most unbelievable natural beauty spots in north america. the first time i went, vegas was my final call after driving up the pacific coast highway, through big sur, seeing migrating whales in the ocean

then up san fran before heading inland to yosemite for stunning hikes up granite mountains like this

before doing the desert drive through death valley.

vegas is the perfect way to end a trip like that. a long weekend of hedonism after the roadtrip of a lifetime.

I've been twice and would be in no rush back, it's worth doing once for the experience but I'd definitely combine it with other destinations. I'm doing a California road trip this year and certainly had no desire to include LV on the itinerary.

a long weekend in vegas is plenty.

the california road trip is still up there with my favourite ever holidays. i've done three in total as my brother used to live in LA so i'd visit him and use his place as a base - even better in a mustang convertible.

i used to think the same before i went there for the first time.

Me too, tbh. My friend was browsing at holidays and found a week in Vegas for less than £560 each (flights & hotel) so on a whim I booked it for me and my lad and we had an absolutely brilliant time. I'd probably not have bothered if she hadn't done all the hunting around for a deal, we usually just do European city break type holidays.

That's exactly what I've hired.

Of course when I go to pick it up they'll tell me that they only have a Ford Focus in stock <_<

I was given a white one.

Total plasticky bullshit.

Going to do it again in a proper car, instead of one built out of stickle bricks and isolationism.

 Poor J69, books a nice holiday and then instantly has everyone tell him it's shite.

 half of them haven't even been

Fuck you all. I'm still struggling to see what's to dislike. nice hotels, lush beaches, hot weather, plenty of restaurants. Maybe I've got this holiday lark wrong but that's pretty much all my boxes ticked.

I've already done a week in Rome and a cruise to Venice, Athens, Dubrovnik, Montenegro etc this year for my culture fill. I'd quite like a tan now

I would have, but when I drove I couldn't go up the PCH because of landslides and the idiot I went with was the worst of all time.

Quick example; when driving through the Soledad Valley I asked him to pop on something atmospheric, something grand. He chose Nickelback.

I only really enjoyed the driving when we pottered around the 17 Mile Drive and he was too hungover to say a God Damn thing.

I did Vegas for my stag do and drove to the canyon for a day. Probably the highlight of the trip. Enjoyed Vegas but can't say I'm in a hurry to return. I'd rather do San Francisco if I was that way on again

San Francisco is brilliant, shit loads of hobos though. And not the "Littlest" kind of hobo, more the "scary toothless crack fiend" kind of hobo.

Depends if you're an optimist or not, I'd say it was half empty :gay:

 I can't work out who's worse - you for asking for something atmospheric and grand, or him for putting on Nickelback. I'd have gone for LMFAO FWIW.

I'm going on a road trip from Nashville to New Orleans then on to Texas later this year. It's the Rosco P Coltrane memorial tour.

Those weren't my exact words, but typing "Chris, put something massive on, y'know something that, like... suits this view." is a ball ache.

We're planning to do the music trip with a couple of mates next year. Nashville, Memphis, N'Orlins.
