Rafa Benitez Watford press conference:

“If you want to sign a striker who will score 20 goals, you must pay £40m.

“If you sign an average striker, it is £15m, or £10m if they can kick it forward.

We didn’t do it. That’s the situation we’re in. We must stick together. I still have full confidence in our team.

“We have to compete against Huddersfield and Brighton but we couldn’t sign the players they signed or pay the wages that they paid.

Given Joselu didn't cost half of what you need to pay to get a striker who can kick the ball forwards, that's damning stuff from Rafa

Suspect it's more about the losing run though.

He who shall not be played from the start?

Mitro's confidence in himself is like CT's confidence in the Tories; impervious to reasonable criticism.

We just haven't got the players.

Yup.

Average to poor at 'keeper, fullback, centreback, midfield and attack.

Only really Lascelles, Merino, Shelvey, Ritchie who're what you call decent Premier League players. Decent being better than average imo.

Even a mobile striker with an eye for goal would have made a massive difference. We need something to happen in Jan.

Nah he's been told something he doesnt normally get angry in the press conference if you can watch the video he's very annoyed. Its as if he's starting up the war against Ashley again. If Ashley was going, Rafa knows there'll be plenty to spend in January no need to fan the flames.

Why I've been surprised that Gayle wasn't given more opportunity as a lone forward.

It might be time for the Ashleyout.com & the bed sheet brigade to get fired up again. Let Amanda know in no uncertain terms we want her IN. Also Ashley needs a message that we want him Out. Singing, shouting, bedsheets, flags anything that get the message of Amanda come & buy us & Ashley you sod off

Yeah but all these people care about is money. She's the head of an investment fund man, she's not going to be swayed by an appeal to her sentimental side. She probably doesn't even have one.

There's nowt we can do now. It's in the lap of the moneymen. This isn't like singing Benitez' name to convince him to stay, the only people who're going to impact this deal are Staveley & the PCP partners, and Ashley and his cohorts.

He'll be showing up outside your house next, laughing maniacally and asking if you remember the 23rd March, 1972 or whatever the fuck date it is he's obsessed with.
