New striker signing Yoane Wissa is likely to be out until after the next international break in October.

He's looking like be available for a few months (at best) between late-October to mid-December before he heads off to AFCON to be ruined all over again. Honestly, not sure what his national team coach was playing at picking him to start both matches (playing 62 and 72 minutes) after he hasn't had a proper pre-season. It's fuckin ridiculous. Of course, he's a crucial player for them but come on. Show some common sense.

Anyway, here's a bit of fun/misery for everyone. His matches in the league for the last five seasons:

20-21, 38 matches. Every game.

21-22, 30 matches. Missed six weeks with an ankle injury. DR Congo failed to qualify for AFCON.

22-23, 38 matches. Every game.

23-24, 34 matches. DR Congo made semi-finals of AFCON. Missed mid-January to mid-February for tournament.

24-25, 35 matches. Missed five weeks with ankle injury.

He's missed a total of 15 games in five full seasons of football.

He's already missed four this season because of the transfer window saga. We won't count them in this little game though. But he does look like missing between 3-5 league games with this knee injury. Plus 2-3 CL matches and a League Cup tie. Then he'll be away for AFCON, missing 5-6 more league games.

In short, on top of the four games he's already missed this season, he's going to miss between 8-11 league matches, 2-3 CL matches and a League Cup tie this season. Up to 15 matches. The same number of league matches he's missed in the past five seasons put together.

Newcastle United's luck, ladies and gentlemen.

Shit happens. It IS fucking annoying, but had he got through that game we wouldn't be having this discussion.

What it does validate for me is we were absolutely justified in insisting we replaced both Wilson and Isak before we lef him go to Liverpool. Imagine if we'd only bought Wissa and then this happened.

To be honest I’m genuinely relieved it’s not something more serious because I feared the worst when the rumours were going around

I mean really we needed a third striker brought in. As much as Gordon wants to play there he's not yet suited to it. Combined with Gordon's suspension it means that Osula is going to be called on despite appearing to be not quite ready. It's a lot of pressure and physical demand on Woltemade over the next three weeks. It makes a big difference that it's a home double for last game and again for Barcelona. Then Bournmouth away and another two home games; start our defense of the league cup versus Bradford City and then Arsenal before we fly to Brussels. What a time to be a supporter TBH.

I don't think 3 strikers was anywhere near plausible. The only way that was going to have any legs was if Osula went off the payroll.

We've got unlucky with Wissa, but as Alex points out, it could have been so, so much worse.

I’m not sure many clubs have more than three central strikers, Chelsea probably have about 17 but beyond that they are rare - hence Isak’s insane valuation.

Wissa

Wolfie

Osula

Is probably par for the course

Hopefully Neave can continue developing to push Osula for that third striker spot. He seems a decent prospect from the little bit I've seen of him.

I think for us to significantly improve the third option (i.e. Osula) would represent us making a significant leap forward in our transfer policy. I agree, we're par for the course, for where we are right now. In the future it may be different but that'll be a time where we operate a rotating squad rather than having a defined starting XI. We're definitely not there yet.

Yeh absolutely! I like Osula and there may be a player in there but half the time he’s like a cat that’s sat on the tip of a welders gun which is no good as we are quite an organised side, often complex & rehearsed in our phases of play etc

Also in respect of rotation, its as much a mentality change in the fans as everyone else but its modern football & its imperative if we are to have a crack at 4 different competitions.

Osula feels like someone who is desperate for a season out on loan but he has to stay here due to the serious amount of games we’ll have. I’m sure he’ll get minutes but he’ll not get enough to really nail a position down which I think he needs

He reminds me in many ways of Origi at Liverpool. An option but a evident departure from the other options available.

If he scores in the Champions League final for us, he'll do for me. :)

The bairns can't handle the straight dope from Craig Hope. "oh he hates us! Always puts a negative spin on things, he's sly and sticks the boot in on Eddie".

All of it pure fantasy.
