The formation gave us issues in the first half. Burn ended up LB against Saka for big chunks and struggled with him.

I would suggest that, when fit, Hall, Botman, Thiaw and Tino should be our starting back 4.

100% our strongest back 4

We have a few players who are below their best at the moment, Gordon in particular, Joelinton also hasn't been his usual self. Overall we were outplayed here, Pope kept us in it and then we scored an excellent set piece goal. For their first it was an incredible header by Merino and for their second they were allowed to put a man directly on Pope and he proceeded to be blocked from making a play at the ball. So even though we were outplayed it was fine margins.

I'm very interested to see how Howe will use Wissa and Woltemade when they're both available.

To be honest Gordon has been really poor from the middle of last season onwards. Not sure what has happened with him, would it co inside with us having contact with Liverpool about him possibly moving last year?

if Tino didn’t get injured I think we would have won that. Fine margins.

Arsenal deserved the points overall so no real complaints. Just move on and try  to start getting some points on the board.

I think we are in for a bit of slug this season. It could end up being a mid table job.

We are seeing the result of the awful summer.  I never agreed with what some said in that even with losing the rat, we ended up having a good transfer window.  It's not just about the squad you end up with, it's what opportunity Howe and his coaches have had to work with that squad and get them ready for the season.  He basically had no time with anyone but Elanga.  That would be bad most summers, but when you're also having to replace a key member of the squad with players who have come in after you've played 3 games, you're asking for trouble.  It's not like bringing in players like for like who will eventually replace the player who's still there (which is no doubt the plan with Elanga/Murphy & Thiaw/Schar) we've brought in a very different striker to the very important one we had.  We are going to have to make changes and it's going to take time.  It was clear from Friday's press conference that Howe was a bit pissed off that he basically hasn't had the chance to work with the players because of the summer and now the amount of games that we are having.  Playing weekend/midweek/weekend just doesn't afford you the time to do the work he would want to do, especially after that summer.

Injuries to Ramsey and Wissa in particular certainly aren't helping.  Wissa would probably allow us to play in a way much more similar to how we did with Isak and take a lot of pressure off Waltemade (who is handling it well so far but clearly not used to physical requirements of the team and the league).

I don't have any long term concerns though, we're more than capable of getting through this difficult spell and going on a five or six match winning run that jumps us up the league.  But I do expect this season to be something of a transitional season.  We simply can't expect be able to play in exactly the same way with the changes up front.  We need to work out a way to play with the players we now have.

I hope Howe abandons this back 5 or whatever it is now. It just doesn't work. Burn on the left worked for a season but has been a nightmare since then.

He's got to figure out the midfield, completely agree with other views on Gordon. Murphy thankfully can still provide a killer pass but his overall play continues to underwhelm for long periods. Barnes is a one trick pony, Elanga hasn't looked settled yet.

Joe is also a concern, he hasn't seemed his usual self for a while now. I wonder if the injuries have had a permanent effect. Thank goodness for Tonali who does about 3 roles in there because the rest have been bang average for months now.

Tons to sort out. We might just also need a bit of luck and a couple of results to get everyone's confidence up. The good thing is we've been in these rought spots in the past and Howe has always worked it out. Wissa and Ramsey's injuries have obviously been major blows too.

Oh and Tino right now is a massive concern. I know he has rough edges still but he's instrumental to so much of what we do, a major outlet with his ball carrying and he's always in and around the play looking to link things up. No wonder things fell apart when he went off. A bit of luck with his injury for once would be welcome. Shades of 2 years ago with our luck with injuries thus far.

We don’t play these again until the end of April. We usually get better as the season goes on.

Really looking forward to it after that, I hope we go there and kick fuck out of them. Especially if Tino’s injury is bad.

Woltemade:

“I felt his elbow in my face. I’m two metres, so his arm had to be really high. I said it to the referee. I felt something in my face and I think it’s not right to feel something in your face."

“I’m not the type of player who will fall down for this. It’s hard, because sometimes maybe you have to do it, but this is not my type of football, and I don’t like it. He said sorry after, so I think he knew that he hit me in my face."

When asked why he didn’t shake Gabriel’s hand:

“Because I don’t like this. If you do something in the game then 30 seconds after you say sorry, that’s not a part of the game. I don’t like it. We had some really good situations, and I like this situation where we can get a good battle but it always has to be fair. His elbow should be not in my face.”

I honestly just don't agree. I think we treated Liverpool exactly how we should have done.

Going back to them when he was on strike would've landed us less money because they ARE cunts, they act it top to bottom at that club.

We forced their hand in the end as much as they forced ours. We got more money out of them which is crucial in the PSR world and we made it clear that it will take extraordinary money and actions to get our star players in future, a lesson to anyone looking that we're not going to be soft touches even if it hits us a bit hard short term.

This start is tough, we've struggled to get the ball in the net, clearly.

But our midfield and defence both look VERY good, we're creating chances and Woltemade so far has had two shots on target and scored twice, he appears to be picking up the PL very well and just needs better conditioning which he'll definitely get under Howe. With Wissa and Ramsey to come back and improve our depth and output.

We've so far only lost to last seasons champions, last seasons second place and Barcelona.

I know you aren't pissing yourself but some people appear to be and its just not necessary.

Explosion Reaction GIF

our defence looks good but we’re not creating many chances compared to previous seasons. Our xg has been pretty terrible most games. Clearly there’s mitigation but that’s something we need to improve

We need to get Tonali's contract extension sorted sharpish.  I really don't see us getting back in the champions league next season so we don't want to be negotiating it from that weaker position.  Get it done now because he is clearly the best player we have and other clubs will be sniffing around him soon enough.

No update on Tino yet.

Eddie said "next couple of days" not 24 hours, whoever that report is from (I wonder) is misleading folks.
