You have to say with Ashley, he does get the players he wants in the end. Usually several months after the point at which they'd have been useful, but even so. I was under the impression - and I'm very ready to be corrected on this - that Hamas was firing rockets into Israel throughout this. And that a ceasefire was called, and that they kept going. They have some responsibility here. Not that this would justify what Israel are doing. It seems they're taking the view that peace is failing, and now only horror and death can solve the matter.

Just realised that Liam was in my year at school. Nice lad from the couple of times I spoke with him - some of my other mates were a bit closer to him and never had a bad word to say. Real shame. Nice to see the response though, from both the club and the Sunderland fans (and others).

It seems that the flight was routed over the location of the BUK missiles by the Ukraine... Don't really know what to make of that... they can't possibly have known that the rebels would shoot it down. Although you have to think, it's the Ukraine that benefits from this - no one else does. They're a lot closed to having allied forces involved now than they were prior to it happening. That said, I don't think they did it. Much more likely it was the rebels, especially given that they claimed responsibility. I wonder if the Ukraine expected it though...

Well, except the no fly zone was for 32,000 feet, and they were flying at 33,000 feet to save about 15 mins journey time. I mean yeah, they're not breaching the NFZ, but they're cutting it pretty damn close. Not that they were the only ones.

Well at least we've actually replaced Debuchy. Hopefully it'll work out with Janmaat. We seem to get a bounce when we bring in new players under Pardew, so we may actually have a good start to the season. Before he drums their form out of them.

I think it's a massive shame about Ben Arfa. Sure he hasn't helped himself, but I remember he wanted to be the world's best or something like that :/ Pardew has ruined any hopelessly slim chance he ever may have had of that.
