1. I believe all midfielders should help out in the scoring and providing of goals. I don't expect him to score many goals, but if he's just going to be another central defender then I think that's a waste of a player. Incidentally, there is no excuse for his feeble shooting imo, he needs to practice more in training. 99601 Would you sign Claude Makelele? 99714 Yeah, you've got a good point there Gol I concede. Makelele would be better if he scored more goals though.
2. Well I wouldn't do it myself and I'm not defending them but it really doesn't bother me. As you say I'm biased though and I accept that. I also have never liked Smith which doesn't help.
3. Sorry Alex, that's bitter manc bollocks actually. Obviously a lot of scousers have had to move from Liverpool, the same as have had to move from all northern cities including Newcastle and Manchester. 99699 I believe of all English cities Liverpool has had the highest rates of people moving away from it since the 1960's. 99704 Might be true although I doubt it is much worse than here. If so the reasons would be the same - unemployment and industrial decline forcing people out. Also iirc Liverpool was the only northern city with a growing population at the last census. Actually, while were on the subject of distasteful football chants, can I just say it pisses me off when we sing "you'll never get a job" etc. I wouldn't mind it once but it gets ridiculous when it's repeated 30 times at away matches. Newcastle has historically had near identical problems. Freedom of speech, banter, and all that but sometimes people should think more about what they are singing. More offensive than the alleged Alan Smith chant to me tbh.
4. Sorry Alex, that's bitter manc bollocks actually. Obviously a lot of scousers have had to move from Liverpool, the same as have had to move from all northern cities including Newcastle and Manchester. I've spent a lot of time in both cities (although admittedly I haven't been to Manchester in a while) and I would have to say Liverpool is the superior city in many ways. Certainly I don't think there would be any more reason for a manc to love and stay in Manchester than for a scouser to do the same in Liverpool. Plus I know plenty of scousers who would never consider leaving the city. Basically both cities are much of a muchness really. 99696 tbh 99699 Nice one la!

6. Allerdyce would be acceptable but with O'Neill I feel we would be getting the right balance of experience and ambition. His appointment would really excite me and be a massive coup for Newcastle. I believe O'Neill could completely transfrom the club in the long term if he gets and takes the chance.
7. I really, really hope so. Please let this be true.
8. Well, yes, I have had countless discussions trying to get us to use "ised" instead of "ized" but to no avail. Obviously it's affecting my internet writing now. Apparently though "ized" is the true English variant though, which the American's have correctly adopted, so now you know!
9. Your editor must be in tears. 99656 Genuinely lost me Dotbum. If it's the z spelling, well unfortunately that's editorial policy.

Luque

An excellent first season is a hell of a lot better than we're getting from Luque this season though, isn't it? The truth is, even though he was shite last season, he created more goals than anyone else in midfield. And it's goals that count, innit?
11. The people who attacked the ambulance were scum, without a doubt. I'm a bit more ambivalent about fans who may have sung a song and hurt poor Alan's feelings though. Btw, I have no problem with ManU fans, know many and they are all canny. Arsenal and Chelsea fans have always seemed OK to me too. Stop talking shite man.
12. Even the official supporters club are suggesting it was Liverpool fans. They'd be the first group to deny it had anything to do with their 'own' if there was even a shread of doubt... 99649 Craig, the bit you bolded was spot on, it wasn't genuine football fans, just dickheads. Liverpool and Newcastle have many similarities, the charver culture being one of them unfortunately. I got the metro back from the match last night for the first time in months and it was prettty scary how many scumbags were on it. I'll be using the car again on Saturday.
13. Glad you brought this up. I'm being defensive for three reasons. Firstly, I suspect this is shit stirring by the tabloids. You say it was obvious how badly injured Smith was, well it is if you can see him in close up on TV, but not at the ground. And as I said, there were no audible chants on Sky. Secondly, I don't like it when a group of footbal fans are demonised, and I have a particular soft spot for Liverpool. I went to Uni there and consequently met many scouse Liverpool supporting friends. There was never any problem with supporting NUFC, even in the Kop. For the most part I think they are genuinely good fans and I happen to think there is a good relationship between us. Thirdly, even if it was sung, so what? I have heard much worse at SJP and on our travels, I'm not keen that football should be sanitized any more than it is already. Obviously, if the ambulance was attacked then that is shocking, but I'm not sure if football fans should be held accountable for it, more likely scally bastards (which unfortunately are common in Liverpool like our own charvers).

Luque

He could do no wrong in your eyes could he? Jesus fucking wept! 99628 He could do no right in your eyes could he? Jesus fucking wept! Contrary to what you think, I am not a blinkered Robert fan, but I do recognise what he has done for us in terms of goals and assists. I really struggle to see how other people don't recognise this. If Luque was producing the goods I wouldn't be remotely bothered by his half-arsed attitude, but he isn't. If people can't see the difference then fair enough, there's no point discussing it.
15. Who did it though, and why are LFC condemning it? Presumably not the fans because they would have been in the stadium. 99621 That's bordering on a sooperfan type comment... It is more than possible for fans of Liverpool to have been outside the stadium at the time Smith was moved you know - or are you claiming they only have 45,000 fans? 99623 Righto, that's a sooperfan comment is it? LFC should only be reponsible for the fans in the ground - anyone outside could be, well, anyone. Members of the public, Everton fans, charvers, etc, etc. Is there a link for this story yet? Would be interesting to know when it allegedly happened.

Robert produced the goods in terms of goals and assists - that much is indisputable. I'm not going to rise to your bait, but you should question yourself why YOU have felt it necessary to bring up Robert twice in a thread that has nowt to do with him. 99611 I'm not baiting Renton, I brought him up both times as i thought it was relevant. People talk about Luque as a player who can't be arsed. In that respect he's very much comparable to Robert. 99619 Craig, it's absurd to compare our most prolific midfielder of the past few years with Luque. I wish to God we still had Robert on the pitch compared to Luque, "swapping" the two and spending £10 million in the process is a disgrace. Alex, I take your point but those "excuses" should now be in the past. I have been patient (this is the first thread I have criticised Luque I think) but enough's enough - the guy just simply isn't interested.
17. Who did it though, and why are LFC condemning it? Presumably not the fans because they would have been in the stadium. I heard this story and TalkShite this morning but frankly I don't believe a word they say. Anyone got a link to a credible source?
18. Utter shite! A souness team would have lost tonight with Ameobi on the left and Luque up front from the start. We never looked in trouble (perhaps minorly in the closing stages) and just missed the world class strikers we have. A Souness team would have used that as an excuse to be outplayed all over the park. 99495 Exactly right. The difference was we had shape and structure, and a degree of belief and determination. It was always going to be difficult with a side lacking any decent strikers or pace - that isn't Roeder's fault. Optomistic nut you're either being a wum or an idiot, I reckon probably the latter.

Luque

change the name to Souness and its the same old story, "not good enough", "give time". Get the useless knacker out, but don't talk him down and try to get a fee. I only hope people remember these 2 deals, among others, that were all down to Souness' professional "expertise" when Fred gets crucified for not having another 50m quid in the summer..... BTW, the bold bit was obvious as fuck after his first game. 99492 As Wullie said, events have conspired against him but he hasn't done himself any favours. He'll be away in the summer imo as I think it'll be what both he and the club wants. 99612 How have events conspired against him? Don't make excuses for the twat, please.

I'm not going to rise to your bait, but you should question yourself why YOU have felt it necessary to bring up Robert twice in a thread that has nowt to do with him. As for Luque, did anyone notice on Saturday against Southampton how he walked straight off the pitch without clapping the fans or swapping shirts, unlike the rest of the team? People saying he needs time to adapt are talking bollocks. He doesn't appear to have the skill to do anything right, and what's worse is he isn't even bothered. He's a bigger waste of money than Marcelino and is acting like a complete cunt imo. I'd take 3 million for him and get rid asap.

22. I really, really despise Brazil. I think his problem is that he is thick as pig shit, with an IQ less than Taylor27. All his opinions are classic Daily Mail. I don't mind Parry as much. He strikes me as being fairly bright but is a classic "shock jock". He can be quite funny at times though, such as today boasting that he impresses the ladies by leap-frogging post boxes.....
