the thing that worries me the most about this is if barton and enrique go. that's the spine of the team gone. you can't make wholesale changes overnight and expect a smooth ride. continuity and stability are key - you need evolution, not revolution, particularly when you're taking about key senior players.

i agree that it's good to see that we're getting a lot of business done at the start of the window for once. the worry that won't go away is that we'll sell a player for each that we sign. the cadabye signing was encouraging but that doesn't mean we can afford to lose a senior player at the same time. as things stand, the squad looks threadbare. the board have got a lot of work to do before they'll convince the majority of us that this window won't be another spectacular fuck up. i don't have faith in them to prove me wrong.

Pretty much how I feel. If we sign two forwards (plus having Ben Arfa) and with Cabaye signing, we need another MF to cover for Tiote when he is banned. You can start to see how Nolan wouldnt fit in. A few IF's there like but I dont feel it's the end of the world some do. It is the leadership that would concern me more than missing him on the field. aye, a lot will depend on who else we bring in. if it's part of a plan to get more mobile, pacey players in, it kind of makes sense. if 3-4 better players come in and we don't loase enrique and barton, then things won't look that bad. i don't expect the board to have planned this out in any way though. as things stand, our team has little to no goal threat next season. i don't have the exact numbers to hand but i reckon nolan and carroll probably scored the majority of our goals last season. they both need replacing sharpish.

funny like because if we'd sold him a year or two ago, i wouldn't have been that bothered. like most on here, i thought he was finished at premier league level. proved us all wrong though didn't he? i wonder though if pardew didn't fancy him as an automatic starter next season now he's signed this young french kid, and nolan walked because of that, or if it is just about money. daft move if he isn't replaced with a quality player. he's our captain, our leader; you have to credit him with helping generate the team spirit that has got us through the last season. those kinds of players don't grow on trees. this could be another spectacular fuck up from the board.

batty was quite a limited footballer but he played in a pretty good side. tiote is much more of a modern holding player. comfortable on the ball, athletic, able to start moves off and as committed in the tackle as batty. he's just playing in a much poorer side.

so potentially we've got barton, nolan and enrique - three of our senior players - all leaving. i'm all for an influx of new faces but we don't have a big enough squad to be losing the bulk of our current key players.

buying him back for over twice what we sold him for would be a shocking piece of business. can't see it happening.
