there's never, ever a bad moment for this.....

fuck strawb. when i was a kid I like to think I was a bustling centre forward in the malcolm macdonald mould and it was where I played in the school team. however, i also wasn't adverse to having a go between the sticks and made a good fist of it when I did. something that hadn't escaped the attention of mr walton the teacher who coached the under11s. one day our usual keeper was poorly so I was asked to step up to the plate, which I did in heroic fashion keeping a clean sheet. can't remember which school it was against now, but im sure they do. the 10 year old me wouldve saved arsenal's first goal. with ease

at this point the ball is much closer to him than it is his left post. he doesn't move, at all. once the ball has hits the bottom of the post and goes in it dawns on pope that he should've at least attempted a save so decides the only way to save face is to try recreate the steven taylor v arsenal incident and pretend to have been shot. he might've fooled you, but he didnt me.

anybody???? -
the greatest goalkeeping display i personally think ive ever witnessed was by alex williams for man city back in october 1983. we beat them 5-0 and he was fucking magnificent. comfortably would've hit them for double figures without him. @trainman @LondonBlue and any of the old cunts like me from here who were there that day.

world class saves....
-
in fairness from alex stepney onwards . sadly I also witnessed a one in '96 which really was elite, on a different planet in fact from pope's yesterday.
-
I would say elite was slightly embellishing it mind. i dont think any of the saves were ones most keepers would fail to save. I thought for the 1st goal he failed to move at all other than the theatrical attempt to claw it back after it had already gone in off the post. ive actually watched it a few times again this morning and I think the angle the header comes from he could've blocked it just by moving forward. 2nd goal he was nowhere near the ball in his 6 yard box.

couple of canny saves yesterday, but at what point does arguably the worst distribution by any keeper in the league override that? now I think. time to give ramsdale a go.

not a big fan of crystal palace supporters, but still..... https://x.com/FBAwayDays/status/1972016815841882286?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed|twterm^1972016815841882286|twgr^a65df6f83c292b5564ccb55aec317fb39e30ed9d|twcon^s1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-12695387051419748381.ampproject.net%2F2509191850000%2Fframe.html

they'll be having to do some serious sound editing if they're covering the ryder cup?

from the bbc match report... British record signing Isak looked rusty, missing a glorious chance in the second half before being withdrawn to predictable chants of "what a waste of money" from home supporters hope the skinny cunt has the piss taken out of him mercilessly in every ground he plays in. would love to see it mentally destroy him, the ficking rat.

taylor actually downplaying their status really, bearing in mind the mackems all seem to think they're globally recognised. ive just read the article.... https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/sep/26/sunderland-premier-league-training-data-analysis the woman is bordering on insane, I like this bit... All prospective newcomers are sent a short, slick video offering a résumé of Sunderland’s illustrious history and their renascent standing as one of European football’s most compelling narratives I don't know about slick but I'd agree it'll be fucking short.

I reckon thats the bit where he's loving the smell of napalm in the morning.

anybody else noticed the striking resemblance between eddie howe and the crazy captain kilgore from apocalypse now?

admired around europe? there might be one or two folk in their 70s and upwards in lisbon and budapest who have faint recollections of them, other than that I doubt there's many on the continent who've even heard of them.

my eyes have seen the glory of macdonald scoring goals as thr mags go marching on on on -
last night's match had them in fucking knots. the stupid cunts couldn't decide whether to celebrate bradford's goal against us as the onset of a possible comeback, or want the goalscorer dead because he was a spennymoor mag.
