Isn’t the debate a bit more nuanced that that? I may have this wrong but I thought TBD was saying that police are rarely properly held to account on the occasions they abuse their positions - by their colleagues, the justice system or the press. I think he was trying to contrast that with the example of the travellers (which I freely admit I know nothing about). if that’s right then he’s not saying all police and violent and corrupt, just that bad cops can act with impunity because there are rarely consequences (usually they just retire on a generous pension). I don’t think theres anything wrong with calling that out - a fair and just police force is what’s needed to protect society (which is their role after all) and justice is supposed to be blind. As a footnote personally I don’t think the press should be allowed to identify anybody who’s before the courts until sentence has been passed. Because theyre cunts and dont give a shit about the fairness, impact or consequences of their reportage.

It’s almost as if the Leave campaign was based on nothing but a bunch of jingoistic nonsense, blatant lies and anti-foreigner rhetoric. Full blown Boris in other words. This is the age of anti-reason, where what you choose to believe is far more important than facts or logic. People needed to feel the consequences and what it would cost them personally. Tell them they will lose their cheap wine, good beer, nice cars, cheap holidays, cheap food, millions of jobs, dope and hookers, free money, whatever, make it up like Boris and Nigel did. Flood social media with alarmist headlines, grab the news cycle and wheel out the celebs (rather than some dweeby patronising Tory Lord). My impression watching from afar was that the Remain campaign was a half hearted shambles and totally clueless, with most Remain supporters not being arsed to vote. A shambles which, as pointed out above, has fucked young people royally because they will end up paying for the resulting mess in the future.

This perfectly sums up how I feel. I’m pleased for England but I can’t say I support them. A significant victory but I assume it’s being treated with the usual hype and jingoism as if we’d won the entire tournament by crushing the best teams 10 nil. Still well done, chaps. Yay.
