2009-2011: A two-season triumph for the Toon
Kitman replied to Irrelevant Nick KP's topic in Newcastle Forum
Kitman, exceeding what you spend is what makes happiness. Burnley and Fulham did in 2008-09, and Fulham did again in 2009-2010 and their fans were absolutely delirous. And look at Chelsea! They won the league last season, but how mooted was their celebrations??? I bet even Abramovich wasn't expecting his band of worshippers to become blazé, THAT quickly! I bet tears of laughter were running down your face when you wrote that Nick -

We got relegated with players like Owen,Martins,Duff,Viduka so called big names on mega bucks. We have stayed up with a decent bunch of players with a great team spirit. We do need new players but ones that fit in and not big time Charlie's. I would say our first season back has been a success as we will be in the prem next season but we need to build on it JSM, I was responding to Nick wotsit's post. We have been successful against massively lowered expectations, because these days we're happy to survive. Don't tell me it's been more fun than previous seasons though, oe even particularly successful tbh. -

So the benchmark of a successful season is that we got back in the PL (which we should never have been relegated from in the first place), paying less wages and doing better than teams who spent more money than us on players? Well woop de doo, let's hang out the fucking bunting. Much more fun than challenging for the title, or playing in the CL. -
I thought you'd had bad injuries. Like us (and most other teams outside the top 5 or 6), you don't have the squad to cope when important players are missing. Not surprised he's not getting cut any slack though (although I think of him as a Man Utd stalwart first and foremost). 1 point in 27 is disastrous form though, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if your owner gives him the heave-ho at the end of the season, I probably would. I really thought he'd have done better than he has, and when he was appointed I thought you'd may be finally backed a good horse.

God knows how you get any work done then. You must spend all day tweeting

Is that true though? Isn't it possible he can come back fully recovered? And although I accept it's a fucking long shot, isn't is possible we might buy a top quality striker this summer (i.e not Carlton fucking Cole)?
-
FWIW I think we won't bring in more than one new striker (letting Shefki go in the process). His rapiness has said he'll play HBA behind a front man, I assume that'll be plan A for the season. I also don't think we'll do any more than replace Enrique if he goes, especially with the noises Pardew's been making about Ferguson. I assume he'll still be keen to sign Ireland assuming he comes good in the last few games. So we might only see 3 or 4 players max, unless there's a free signing or two kicking around, and I doubt all of the 35m will get spent.

The A league's a pretty poor league imo. I can't watch it for more than 10 mins at a time. That's my point Yes I guessed that Mind you, unless Perth has a decent horse racing scene, he'd only be interested in the Victory anyway

Exactly. We're safe. With only five games left Blackpool aren't two wins & two draws, or three wins better than us. We're safe. Yes. They probably won't even get 8 points from their remaining games.
-
Horrendous imo.

He's actually a good goalkeeper with a seriously bad injury record, he's constantly injured. What's the craic among the fans with Bruce, James? Do they think he's lost it and is hitting the bottle? You've had a lot of injury problems haven't you, is he copping the blame for the situation?
-
He should also realise it's not all ex-players who get booed. Ones who leave under the right circumstances - which includes not producing a glossy brochure when your team's just got relegated - generally get cheered. I remember being at a match v Spurs where Sir Les got a hero's welcome, can't remember which one now as it was ages ago.
-
The reason the fans are on his back is because he gave every appearance of not giving a shit and in particular when we got relegated. He clearly thought he was too good for us and according to Freddy put nothing into the community away from the pitch either. If he's being unfairly dealt to he should come out and tell us what these "facts" are.

Great result

was my first thought too there are plenty of high functioning alcoholics in high stress positions, so not sure I agree on this one, chez isn't Alex Ferguson teetotal now ? Read his book but can't remember. He def has no time for his players drinking, always has. It clearly took its toll on Brian Clough in his last few years. I thought he was a bit of a wine connoisseur these days. From a recent Guardian article Alan Pardew has been out shopping for a special bottle of red wine with which to entertain Sir Alex Ferguson. Whatever the vintage and provenance, it will surely be infinitely more palatable than the breakfast Manchester United's manager once served his Newcastle United counterpart.

Putting you three steps away from something that made a positive contribution to music Ouch

As I recall from links posted on N-O at the time, the Coventry fans were cock a hoop they got 6m for him ("stupid Geordies, can you buy my car etc). They thought they'd sold us a duffer. As it turns out Strachan was playing him out of position (as you say). I wonder how they feel about it now.

If I was handling the inquest I'd interview Giovanni tbh

I was once bought some doors which had belonged to Stuart Cable the drummer off the Stereophonics. Who tragically died some years later from choking on his own vomit.

I never thought Ketsbaia was a striker though? More of an attacking mid perhaps?
-
To be fair, clubs may well have been contacted and offers made. It's all wind and piss though till the player's getting his piccy taken with Rapedoo's arm around his shoulder.
-
I didn't agree with his appointment as I thought his record was underwhelming. I hope he comes good but until then I'll remain dubious about his credibility.

Thank God I don't ay UK taxes anymore

I couldn't agree more LM. To paint KK as a money grabbing cunt is absurd. Shit patter like Phil's is why I stopped going on N-O. Can you explain the 25m law suit? No, cos that doesn't fit your bromance. Feel free to leave "Bromance"? I see you speak twattish. I don't need to explain anything to you. You're a mug. Why don't you fuck off instead?
