Agree with that but there was a time when Gordon was at his best here when he was curling in quality finishes from the left every other week. He was instrumental to so much good that we were doing and complemented Isak really well by dragging out defenders and creating space. I think he's just not been right since being sent off before the cup final. Overall he offers more than Barnes but he's got to try and find some sort of form, at the moment Barnes should start.

Glad you're feeling better Gloomy. You've probably heard this from a hundred people by now but regular moderate physical activity is the only thing that's really helped me prevent those bastard slipping/herniated disks. The first time I got it I wasn't even 30; and it always felt it could flare up any time again even when it got better. Went on and off for a few years, was proper sick of it and tried pretty much everything except surgery. A couple of years back some friends got me back into playing regular football at the weekend; and I started doing a bit of weight training during the week to try and lose some fat. Haven't been very successful in that but one day I realized the bastard discs haven't as much as peeped in that time.

Echoing what others have said, the world can be a proper shite place at times. Really hope things take a turn for the better for all involved.

Apart from Burn and Joe, Murphy is the other one that stands out at being bad in possession. I mean he'd deadly in the final third but outside of that he can be utterly dreadful. And Elanga even at his best is not a possession based player. Not that you'd want your wingers to hold onto the ball for long of course but you've got to do way better than what him and Gordon have done this season. Given some of the physicality stats posted in the Adam Clery video (we're basically shit at being physical now), maybe Howe will let some of the obsession with height and power slide i.e. more playing time for Ramsey and Miley.

With the rat's sale you'd hope there's some room for January spending but given clubs are more reluctant to part with players mid season; it's hard to see us making big moves especially knowing how carefully/cautiously our management handles transfers when it comes to the price.

We've improved as a squad definitely but the point about the first team being relatively stagnant is a fair one. Elanga was supposed to improve on Murphy I suppose but let's leave that part alone for now and hope for the best. A bit like some of the other issues we've had under Howe, one could argue this is another phase that we need to go through in the evolution to becoming a consistently great team. Granted it does feel like an optimistic take given generally how poor we've been in the league this season but I still back Howe to do it.

While that may be true I'm looking forward to this a lot more than playing the likes of Brighton or Brentford. We've always given these a good game under Howe and with nobody expecting to win hopefully it takes a bit of pressure off the players and they try and enjoy their football a bit.

It hadn't happened but he wasn't playing and there was a ton of speculation and unrest. We were all wishing for it to be done either way so I'm guessing thats when the players were the most unsettled too. I agree confidence is our biggest issue, no arguing with that. I just don't think Isak is a big part of the reason. Or at least that he shouldn't be.

Are we the first team to lose a big player? The saga having an effect is understandable, you could allow for it in the first few games. But if our squad is wallowing in self pity 4 months into the season about a teammate who wanted to leave and threw them under the bus in the process of doing so then they are massive fannies and we have bigger problems than we thought. We were playing much better in August/September btw compared to now so I just can't put much stock into this theory.

You could look at almost any player, situation or area right now and say that it isn't working. Difficult to pick any one thing but I'd start with Ramsdale, Hall and Ramsey coming in. For the rest you just have to hope Eddie and the players find a way fixing the lack of confidence all around, which even CL performances don't seem to be helping with.

It could be something as simple as just not being able to cope with Europe again. I know we have a much better squad now but some of these performances are very similar to two years ago, at least we could blame injuries then.

Time to make Ramsdale the first choice keeper too imo. A more calming influence than Pope at the back could help a bit.

Again, I know we sometimes like to think our owners are whimsical because they're Saudi. But they've not acted like it once. There will no knee jerk reactions happening. They're building a lot of the management team around Howe now too. Social media can say what they like, I don't see them doing anything stupid anytime soon.
