  1. They should be giving the freebies away again for this match - never going to be a better chance to have them waved all over the ground than tomorrow.

    Terry Mac

Quite true... He stayed here under Dalglish and Gullit got rid of him. Came back with Souness IIRC.
  3. He's right up to a point. My biggest fear in all of this is that the general fans perception of what's to come is far too high... We really need to start employing the ethic "expect fuck all and you won't be disappointed". We never expected back in 1992. We hoped he'd save us but I don't think anyone 'expected' that it would definitely happen.
  4. I've thought that throughout. Like the other night when the reporter at SJP asked if he could believe he was back and he replied "yeah"... The old keegan would likely have said no...
  5. Fans: Flag request If anyone can confirm the current whereabouts of the 1992/93 "Champions" Toon flag last seen at Watford last May, can they please email Biffa.
  6. BBC have picked up on the Shearer thing straight away..... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ted/7195390.stm
  7. Doesn't sound like a decline to me! All down to Shearer I reckon...

  9. That's it then - nailed on that Shearer will be here in some capacity.... Why is there surprise that Terry Mac gets praise?
  10. but how can that be so? Someone rang his number? but why offer redknapp the job then? Probably because unlike Shepherd would have done, Mort & Ashley hadn't nailed their colours onto one mast and then panicked when plan A went to shit...
  11. but how can that be so? Someone rang his number?
  12. His foot was over the ball. IMO it doesn't matter if it's one foot or two feet or even if the studs are showing.... if you go in for a challenge and your foot is going over the ball its reckless and deserving of a red card.
  13. Looks positively drugged up in the last pic - how bloodshot are his eyes?
  14. Insisting on being the highest paid player? Not allowing Gullit to get on with the job? Reacting badly to Robson dropping him? He was a great player but I didn't like EVERYTHING he did. Insisting on being the highest paid player? - That would just be par for the course really and no one was on "bad" wages really. Not allowing Gullit to get on with the job? - If anything Gullit seemed to WANT to commit suicide by Shearer by the end, but it was the pressure that got to him not Shearer. Reacting badly to Robson dropping him? - Yup that's a real and genuine criticism of him, and I suspect added to the whole Robson undermining and out thing in the end. Following on from the Robson thing, AF is making it sound like Shearer was the 'black sheep' in the club at that time. Compared to what some of the players were reportedly like towards SBR, reacting badly to being dropped was positively angelic. Anyway, isn't it something to be welcomed? Showed that he was passionate about playing for the club.
  15. I'm amazed that the man who was considered 'Tyneside's favourite son' less than 2 years ago at his testimonial is being hammered for the way he conducted himself during his time here. At the time we signed him, he was considered one of the best (if not THE best) striker in Europe. So he managed to negotiate himself a clause in his contract to state that he was the highest paid player - good on him, it was well deserved!
  16. Linky 'I used to go into games believing the opposition was scared of me. That belief evaporated when I played under Keegan' - Michael Owen in his autobiography Michael Owen was a national hero after breaking into England's team at the 1998 World Cup under Glenn Hoddle. But he feared the worst when Keegan took over to revive the ailing Euro 2000 campaign. Later, writing in his autobiography, he recalled: "For me, the warning signs were all there on the training pitch. Owen did not enjoy playing for Keegan at Euro 2000 "I assume the manager had conveyed to his staff what he thought of me, and plainly it wasn't complimentary. "I felt I was being singled out, not just by the manager but the whole coaching staff." A 3-2 defeat to Romania put England out of Euro 2000. Owen missed the ball completely after 15 seconds. He wrote: "A terrible thought filled my head: 'That's exactly what he wants me to do, because it confirms what he's been saying all week'. "Guess what? When I caught sight of the manager he was throwing up his arms, shaking his head and gesticulating at the coaches as if to say: 'Did you see that?'. "That, I can assure you, is one of the worst feelings in the world. "I used to go into games believing that the opposition was scared of me and that nothing could get in my way. "That feeling, that belief, evaporated at times when I played under Keegan. "I don't think Keegan had any sort of personal agenda against me, I just think that as England manager at a major tournament he felt under enormous pressure and he needed something or someone to blame. "I was an easy target. I wasn't on top of my game." Is the way the press are homing in on the Owen / Keegan relationship pissing anyone else off?? It's almost like they can no longer knock us for not getting 100% behind the manager so lets drive a rift between him and his most expensive asset. Smacks of the situation we had when Gullit became boss. All they focused on was what Ruud had said about Shearer before he was anything to do with our club. They never let go and in the end, I think contributed massively to the rift the two of them had. Also adds weight to the argument that sportsmen shouldn't be writing their fucking memoirs until they've retired.
  17. I remember that.... Douggie Hall wandering into the San Siro and announcing that he was here to sign Baggio for Newcastle... Those were the days.. Was it not the Stadio del Alpi? Sure it was Milan he moved to about a month after he tried that. Given his love for goalscoring Belgian centre-backs, van Buyten. Think you're right about him still being at Juve. Hope you're right about Van Buyten too, assuming he's the player he was. Aye you're right, he was still at Juve. Moved to Milan instead of us though.... Still though..... what an egotistical plonker Deadly Doug really was
  18. It seems .COM must have seen it too....
  19. I'm sensing an effort from MattM4 coming this way covering Keegan on all 3 periods of time he was at the club....
  20. No wonder we're a fucking laughing stock with this clown running the local rag....
  21. I remember that.... Douggie Hall wandering into the San Siro and announcing that he was here to sign Baggio for Newcastle... Those were the days..
  22. Is it just me or is there a bit of Robbie Fowler about him in that clip of him as a 17 year old?
