I suspect the FA's decision to seriously bid for the 2018 WC and that fact that Sunderland will be quite keen to be a host ground will have something to do with it as well

Comments from Freddy Shepherd as reported by the Sunday Mirror, 2nd April 2006:

We've hit new heights of purility! How fantastic

Happy birthday you old shite

This is, quite frankly, the worst shirt we've ever had. Mrs SLP got one on order for you?
-
But does it look more stupid than the current state of SJP, which looks a bit as the club went out of money after doing just half the job? Well it'll look like we've a few extra coins down the back of the sofa but still not quite enough so I'd say so....

I'm sensing a rant about red numbers again

Only realistic chance of getting a building de-listed is if it was needing to be condemned and demolished on the grounds of safety. No chance with Leazes Terrace as it's well maintained. Even then I think they have to consider retaining the outer face of the building and whatever is built in its place needs to have it encorporated within it. Only realistic option is to create either a floating tier or somehow design an expansion to the stand which encorporates the existing building in it whilst keeping the planning dept happy. The first option is stupidly expensive, the second, nigh on impossible. Personally I think they went overboard with L7 developments. They'd have been far better to design an expansion for all 4 sides of the ground to get the capacity to 60,000. Instead, they're doing it by only expanding 3 sides.

I disagree Greg.......it looks fucking stupid to me

So this is now looking a distinct possibility???? How bloody stupid does the East Stand look??? On a related note, I can't imagine too many people are going to want to buy a 'luxury apartment' which is bolted onto a football stadium. Can you imagine the noise levels on match days????

What make is the PC pud?? Certain makes (Dell in particular) have a small partition (less than 50MB)that has all the diagnostics tools setup on it.

Aye some of them do tell you inside the car. My Mondeo has an arrow telling me it's on the off-side. Once borrowed a mate's Uno when we were in Uni and he said it was OK so long as I filled it up on the way back. We pulled into the petrol station and thought "fuck, what side?" Got out had a quick shifty got back in and pulled up to the right pump. Got out again lifted the nozzle of the pump and one of the lads inside the car shouted "it's a fucking diesel not petrol!" Swore I'd seen my mate put petrol in it before but thought it best to check so i wandered out of the petrol station and gave him a quick call. Turns out it was petrol but he had a hole in his exhaust. We must have looked well fucking bait to the bloke inside the kiosk

I guess with him being a scouser it figures, still if he goes to the scouse mackems I wonder if we'll go for Beattie or one of their other strikers... I would have thought Beattie coming here was more than plausible. I fucking hope not. Hes slower than sibierski! He had one good season 4 or 5 years ago. It stuns me that people still want him. Chris Sutton??

£50m?? D'you reckon? That's pedantry you would be proud of, Craig. Indeed

Nugent's price-tag just went up ten fold though....

Same here.... The bloke was a class act - probably one of the most under-rated players (nationally) that there's ever been. The success at Liverpool in the late 80s is often attributed to John Barnes. Personally I think it was down to Pedro. Is he a freeman of the city yet? And if not, why the hell not? Tbf to Barnes, he was a massive part of their success too and no one rates Barnes more highly than Pedro himself. Oh I agree he was a massive part of their success but it just grates me the way the national press picked up on Barnes while Pedro quietly got on with it. I don't think there's any coincidence that Liverpool's fall from grace happened around the same time that Pedro moved across Stanley Park. As an aside, how many players who left Liverpool for Everton are still spoken about with the same affection by Liverpool fans that Pedro is? Not many I wager...

I think we need Jimbo's Telly-esque proof of this....

Was working in the centre of London on Saturday as had parked at Northwood (about 3 stations out from Wembley Park) and got the tube in. When I was leaving to get back to the car, it suddenly dawned on me that I'd be coming through Wembley just as the fans were hitting the tube platform. When we got there it was nuts - far busier than I ever remember it being on cup final days of old. If that thing was only a third full, they've got some serious transportation problems ahead of them!

Doesn't this article completely contradict the comments aired by Roeder a few weeks ago when he said Owen will not be coming back gently??

As with all of them, it'll take time to grow on people - some people will love it, others will hate it. I love it and the more I see it, the more it's growing on me. I think it's a rendition of the bukta shirt of the mid 70s (circa. 1976) when we had a black collar and a centre badge. I'd have preferred the badge on the left chest as normal but then it's only last summer that we were saying the change kit would have looked better with the badge in the centre so they can't win With regards to the back of the shirt, I fear that was inevitable tbh. They have tried black numbers and white numbers and they didn't work. They moved onto blue which were better and then gold which didn't. The optimum colour would have been red but the club have probably gauged the popular opinion that red should go nowhere near the shirt because it's associated with Sunderland (fucking pathetic IMO). So the only other viable option to go for is what they have. Sheffield United have done it this season and I think it looks absolutely fine. Their shirts are still considered striped but with a massive patch on the back. Either way, we've got it for 2 years - if people don't like it, don't buy it........ But they will

Why do people get such a hang up about the England thing?? It was the same carry on when Beckham and Rooney were injured tbh. Not sure of Ritchie's source but if it's national press rather than regional then it's hardly surprising really is it? The rest of the country are only going to be interested when he's fit again to play for England.
