I've still yet to PM anyone to offer them out though have I, you fucking hard bastard. 88921 I heard Renton is waiting for a PM from you offering to go out.

It's a stupid fucking rule anyway - isn't it true that Souness and Ferguson haven't got the right badges yet they got an extension... Can't we just put someone else in charge on a temp basis when the 12 weeks are up? Rob Lee for instance? 88908 I think this rule was set up by UEFA and had to be enforced by the FA (I am waiting for a Papa Lazaru tirade now). They probably only want to sell their coaching courses. In the end it should be the free choice of every club who they let manage their first team.

It's good to see that it looks like Fat Fred envisages the new manager taking over next season. Maybe the late sacking of Souness was just down to this 12-week rule and Shepherd just wanted to hold out as long as possible to make sure that the Roeder can act as a caretaker until the end of the season. I doubt that there will be huge problems if Newcastle haven't hired a manager when the time limit runs out. Then will only be a couple of weeks left in the season. Ideally Newcastle are safe then. What will the punishment be? Probably a fine, though the docking of points could be terrible (I'll have to check the regulations for that).

I have to be optimistic as I advocated this solution (though not knowing about the 12-week rule) for a couple of months now. It's probably sad, but the overdue sacking of the tosser really lifted my mood. If the whole atmosphere at SJP is better tomorrow it might raise the player's spirit and confidence as well. I hope for a win and a good game that will be the turning point of this season.

Who'll be gone in the summer now then?

I think we'll lose a hell of a lot on Owen. How much depends on his performance in the world cup, but we paid over the odds at a time when transfers are falling. 88288 The rumour going round liverpool is that he has a £12mil buy out clause if we fail to qualify for europe this season, apparently Jan Molby said it on scouser radio during their game on wednesday. Other then the likes of boumsong and owen. I can't see us loosing too much on any of our signings tbh 88473 Personally I think that clause is utter bollocks. 88498 Clause or not, I can see it happening. Owen's not going to want to hang around in a club where Europe is a distant dream. 88501 Surely he's not naive enough to make his decision on his future BEFORE he finds out who the manager is going to be though? 88504 Obviously not, but I also think that the new manager needs good persuading skills to convince Michael Owen to remain at a club that looks like sliding back into mediocrity. -
JR??? 88471 John Robertson. Believed to be the man behind the tactics whilst O'Neill was the motivator. 88492 Ah...gotcha. And that's the John Robertson who played with him at Forest rather than the bloke who we bought from (and quickly sold back to) Hearts...? I still maintain we should try Citeh's resolve for Stuart Pearce... 88500 I think it is a bit early to judge Pearce. What has he really achieved so far to make him such an attractive option? He is doing arguably well with a mediocre City side and will probably get a decent midtable position...

Hmm, why was this post edited? Was there an 'e' missing?

Haven't read much from Tim Rich about Newcastle recently, but here he is with a piece in today's Telegraph;

a) Ideally I'd like Hiddink or Hitzfeld. There are a lot of other people I think could do a decent job. Even outsiders as for example Morten Olsen. I wouldn't mind the likes of Allardyce or O'Neill, though I got more sceptical about latter. I don't want the clown Ranieri. I don't trust Fat Fred, though I don't think he can make another totally insane appointment. Though, he probably will hire someone uninspiring, probably Bruce. Or give Anal Oliver the job... or the first one selling him a pie.

All those people moaning about Newcastle being impatient obviously have not seen any games in the last 16 months. If there only had been the slightest indication of Souness being able to take the club forward even through a transition period he probably would have got more backing. The harsh reality is that he is totally inept in all football managing departments. The teams he sent out never seemed to have a game plan, players looked unfit (and I think injuries can get linked to this), there was no confidence and no real team spirit despite all what the tosser said. In Jormany there is a proverb saying "The truth lies on the pitch." That's what Souness got judged on, nothing else.

It's funny that all those pundits and "experts" ahead of the season 2004 were saying Newcastle would qualify for Europe. They said it again ahead of this season, even before the signing of Owen. Now we are close to relegation, playing abysmal football, but are called fickle because we were expecting too much. They should just shut up.

About time. I just hope the decision didn't come too late. I was shot down a couple of times when I said that I considered losing games would be a good result if it resulted in the sacking of Souness. This was about six months ago. Now we are in a position were we cannot afford to drop a single point, especially not against teams like Portsmouth. A new manager will find it difficult in the short amount of time to turn the fortunes and re-install confidence, fitness and tactics ... especially with taking over a depleted squad. Good luck to Glen, he'll definitely need it.

it is quite amazing how consistently poor he has become over the last 2 months. And every time I've seen him play in the French team he hasnt excelled either. He's living on past achievements, and a kick in the back side is on its way. 87701 Exactly. He just gets poorer every game. How he still does get selected for the French national team is beyond me. I have now something to say that I deeply regret: If Craig Moore is fit I would select him ahead of Boumsong on current form. That's it, I am off to the next madhouse...

Depends, if he gets the sack we practically won the lottery tonight! 87595 Souness has anyway. It's funny, a man who claims he only cares about his family, they feel the situation has got so bad that his daughter fears parked cars, but he's staying to prove what tiny, tiny bollocks he has. Proper... 87600 Maybe he doesn't resign because he cares for his family. It's all about the money ... especially as his daughter needs a new car... -

It's worrying when I update my signature after games I only have to adjust the number of games played. Without Owen we are as bad as Sunderland. And that's a FACT.
