Agreed, but the fact that Souness is still in charge because we're still in the FA Cup is ridiculous anyway. It should have nothing to do with that. 86143 It's (almost) funny how lucky results against crap teams from the 3rd Division can keep a Premierleague boss in his job...
-
Who was seriously expecting us to lose against Cheltenham?
-
Yes, but I am right.
-
Souness has taken all the blame? What a joke, he will blame the tea lady before he blames himself. And yes, it's been fantastic the way he protects his players, especially when he implies that the ones he has at his disposal are shit and would never play if his door-openers were fit. Incidentally, Bolton and ManU have bigger injury problems than us and they seem to cope pretty well - could you imagine Souness' press conference after a game where he had to play a central defender and a striker in midfield? They would have to drag him out because he'd never stop going on about injuries. 85963 I f***ing hate this banging on how happy everybody is and how they are all in it together. There is nothing to be happy about. The state of the team on the pitch is painful, they are producing rubbish performances. Though they all know what fate would await them if they came out to say the truth and that they are not good enough. I am also livid about Parker saying that Souness has taken all the criticism. FFS the tosser hasn't taken any criticism at all, but is hiding behind a countless number of excuses. He even had the nerve to say that he has done nothing wrong.
-
Wouldn't it be ironic if one of the few Souness bummers would miss it when the tosser was successful. Lucky draw. As long as we avoid the top teams and an away tie there is every chance of Newcastle getting to the late stages...even if it means we won't get rid of the tosser.

In the journal the quote is even better... "I think Jean-Alain Boumsong will prove to be one of the best central defenders at the World Cup this summer and I will buy you dinner if that doesn't prove to be the case," So what is the best restaurant in Newcastle, I want to book a table...

From todays match report in the Guardian: No comment. EDIT: And more drivel: http://icnewcastle.icnetwork.co.uk/newcast...-name_page.html

85842 And yet Souness also is lacking in a full Pro Coaching Licence isn't he? 85891 He most probably has got it, but like so many people with qualifications, they totally lack skills ! 85893 Does he? I remember not long after he took control, ok kick Bellars and had a hissy fit at Robert, it was mentioned he could only be in charge until 20?? because he didn't have the appropriate qualifications but had until then to get them! 85896 Ferguson and the tosser got exemptions until 2010.

Did you really expect else than a win against a team three leagues below? Are you really happy to see this kind of rubbish performances? Of course it is nice to be in the next round, but it would also be nice not looking like a League 2 team (and a bad one that is). 85599 Since when has the performance been important in a cup match? Tell the mackems how easy it should be to beat teams from the lower leagues. Or Boro - second replay in two rounds for that lot. Or any other Premiership team that gets knocked out by a team in the lower leagues. The ONLY thing that matters in the cup is whether or not you win - yes, it would have been nice to see a scintillating performance, but how often does a Premiership team go away in the FA Cup to a lower league team, and completely blitz them or play them off the park? Not very often. It's just the way people whine on as if the performance has ruined their weekend, when in actual fact, we won and are in the next round that gets on my tits. 85698 Well, for me the performance even in a cup competition is important. I would take the win as a positive if we were outbattled by a inferior team that was resorting to kicking after players and just sit back and try not to concede goals. But from the two FA Cup competitions we were played off the park by Mansfield and yesterday showed less organisation and structure in the game in comparison to another League 2 side. It wasn't that Cheltenham made it difficult to Newcastle, but Newcastle made it easy for Cheltenham. With a French international defender looking like a pub team player, a crap centre forward played out of position on the wing(s) meaning there was no width in the team. When Chopra, who doesn't look like a Premiership player, was the best player it tells you a story. The performance hasn't certainly ruined my weekend, but with a difficult away game ahead it hasn't helped to lift my mood. The cup competition could have been a welcome confidence boost, but actually with how things are going we will see the team slipping down further in the relegation battle.

It'll come from a dodgy penalty...

I actually want him to spend more time with his family.
-
Well done, another rubbish and embarrassing performance. Even the annoying Jorman commentator noticed that there is not structure in Newcastle's game.
-
Good for Luque's confidence to sit on the bench against some low league club...
-
I'm pretty sure we will beat them by 4 or 5 goals and will get told that it was the ever-bestest result Newcastle got in the last 50 years. FFS this is a club that played my local team on a pre-season tour in Jormany, they are nowt special and the way people talk them stronger than they actuall are is ridiculous.

Well, iconoclasm happened in most European countries, but at least the churches itself remained in use.

I think it runs deeper than that. Think about how devoted people had to be to build these things, the same applies for scientific progress. Of course in an enlightened world load of what is written in the bible is historical rubbish. But there is far more in it than that, similes etc. They are the backbone of christian ethics that - like it or not - during the course of history has become the foundation of the thinking of what is seen as the western civilsation. It has formed our culture (and not only by architecture), our law etc. and even to a certain extent the progress of natural science (and hindered it often enough too). We like to see our states to be secular and the outer appearence seems to be. But the roots are still religious and intimately connected with Christianity. That's why I don't like to see it totally banned from schools, but it has to be voluntary. 85332 Good post that. Also, I find it absolutely incredible what people used to be able to biuld. I was echo Renton's comments about Durham as well. It's actually Romanesque in style, pre-dating all the great Gothic Cathedrals of Europe. There is a theory that the stonemasons were either Muslims or trained by Muslims, since in Christian terms at least, it was well ahead of its time. Also, from certain angles, some of the interior looks somewhat Mosque-like I reckon. 85343 Parts of it's architecture are Gothic though n'est-ce pas? Some of the windows are arent they?? 85345 Maybe but the actual structure itself pre-dates the Gothic era. It's about 900 years old or so. 85348 I defer to you on that one. Apparently the CofE Cathedral in Liverpool was based on Durham Cathedral. It's massive like, but neewhere near as beautiful. 'Paddy's Wigwam' up the road is a strange one an all. 85350 I like the Anglican cathedral in Liverpool for it's sheer cavernous size, but its nothing like Durham. Paddy's wigwam was built out of dodgy concrete and was a mess last time I was there. Happy memories though because I graduated in it. 85355 The biggest shame about the English reformation is the destruction of loads of fantastic cathedrals and monasteries (Tynemouth Priory, Lindisfarne, Fountains Abbey and many more).

Now maybe in the past those were needed to some extent but as I keep saying I think if we were more "enlightened" then we'd have the courage to keep the morals and consign the nonsense to history. 85356 I don't dispute the fact that humanity might outgrow religion some day, but for now I am quite happy that religion and the church remain are moral instance as I don't see an actual alternative. In the western world more and more people are turning their back on religion, though not all do I regard as intelligent enough (as the likes of you, Renton etc.) to do without "christian" morals.

I can see them getting stiff necks watching Bramble's long balls aimed at a useless striker (Heskey/Crouch) up front...

In pre-Bosman times when there were only national Champions taking part. At club level I only know Eriksson from his time with Sampdoria where he had a great team with Gullit, Lombardo, Platt and Mancini and was playing some decent stuff. I don't think he is doing too badly for England, but of course a lot of performances have not exactly been eye-catching. My biggest concern is the treatment of the tabloids (especially if England were to fail at this year's World Cup).

To be honest I think Gemmill would make a very similar Chairman to Shepherd. Clued up financially, but clueless about football! 84999 I would make a fucking superb chairman. Charming, debonair, good with figures, professional. And looking sooooooo good in front of the camera. 85000 ... speaking of your alleged appearence, the similarities to Shepherd are actually even more frightening... 85004 They'd only see the top of your speccy little head, Dr. Teenwolf. 85007 Still better than filling out the whole screen with your pie-munching-Fat-Fred-lookalike head. 85010 Aye I can just see you at the press conference sat in a fucking highchair. 85011 At least I only need one chair...
